Thanks Andy,

Wednesday Crowd will most likely use the Ocracoke site Wednesday night and the Friscoe Site Thursday night.

For Friday night this looks like our best option, let me know what you all think. Anyone coming thursday plan to camp in Friscoe.

If this works please let us know, Ramon has been in contact with the Gentleman and he will need to turn his hot water on if we chose this location so we need to let him know ASAP.

Bells Island Campground
Bells Island Campground has approximately 22 acres of land on the shores of the Currituck Sound. Furnishing patrons with a tent area, 39 full hook-up RV sites, 24 RV sites with water and electricity and a dumping station available. Restrooms and shower facility on site. Relax with a game of tennis, basketball or volleyball. Enjoy the water with fishing, crabbing, boating, sailing, and PWC. Theme: quiet, relax and appreciate the beauty of the Currituck Sound.

Mainland
769 Bells Island Rd., Currituck NC 27929
252-232-2590
Hours: Sunday - Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

camping

I guess is a good (or only) stop for camping on Friday night, although it is on the other side of the sound..

from: corolla, nc to: 769 Bells Island Rd Currituck, NC 27929 - Google Maps

We can hang out on the beach near nags head/Kitty haw that afternoon so we can enjoy some of the beach on Friday before going to the campground and then head to Corolla Saturday morning...it will be a long drive to Corolla, but it seems is the only Campground option so far.

Just an idea.

Seems like a good option

There is another:
Hampton Lodge Family Campground: tent camping, pets allowed on leash (and clean up), burn barrels for fires (need to be extinguished by 11), hot & cold city water showers, $20/night no hookup, $22/night w/ electricity.

1631 Waterlily Rd
Coinjock, NC 27923
(252) 453-2732

They are still on Currituck Sound but seem a bit closer (5 min).

google maps, Corolla, NC to Coinjock, NC

I tried these places but no luck:

Joe & Kay's, Kill Devil Hills: but they don't allow/open for tent camping ti April 1st
Adventure Bound, Kitty Hawk: Tent only, no pets, can't get anyone to answer the phone. Wooded area (I think we all prefer a more beach setting.
Kitty Hawk RV: only RVs

They might be better being that they are already open...but then again maybe not

Here's a blip off a generic camping website
Hampton Lodge Camping Resort
RV Resort/Campground -- Coinjock, NC -- Also features: RV Resort/Campground,
Attractive surroundings, excellent fishing and a quiet secluded location away from the highway make Hampton Lodge Camping Resort a favorite of seasoned campers, boaters, and fishermen. Situated along the banks of beautiful Currituck Sound, this waterfront campground has a clear view of the surrounding islands. Tall pines and spice trees shade the area. Hampton Lodge Camping Resort has a total of 250 excellent sites for tents and trailers; available at seasonal rates.
According to the lady who answers the phone, their website is under construction.

Sounds good - actually any place that allows tent camping, a fire, and has a bathroom is fine with me!

Well I caught a stomach bug last Thursday and I missed work Friday, Monday and today. Im feeling alot better right now but last night was pretty rough. I talked to my boss today and hes still cool with me taking this Thursday and Friday off, I just hate to miss that much work. Im still planning on going but it will more than likely be a late Wed. evening decision for me. THIS SUCKS!

Guys and Gals,

We have found the solution! There is a campground in Rodanthe (pronounced Ro-danth-ē) with showers, bathrooms, etc. Dogs are ok and the guy I spoke with is pretty cool. He has a "group" tent site he said we could use for $25/person/weekend for those who will be camping. For those staying in hotels, he said he would be cool with you parking and hanging out with the group (no extra charges). Couple of things:

No loud noise after 10PM
Dogs on leash, kept quiet - $5/night/dog extra charge (sorry, I know that sounds crazy but it is what it is)
I'm still checking on grills, but the description says the campground has a few grills
It's on the sound side, but he said its hardly any distance from the ocean side and we can have a fire on the beach and stay up as late as we want there.

This site is about 40mi south (1 hour drive) of Kitty Hawk. It will be better to stay on the banks than have to go to Currituck or Coinjock, which are actually a further drive.

Here's a description of the place from the web:

Rodanthe Watersports
and Shoreline Campground
NC 12, Rodanthe
(252) 987-1431
Rodanthe Watersports and Campground
This soundfront campground is open year-round for recreational vehicles and tents. Windsurfers and kiteboarders especially enjoy this campground because they can sail right to some of the campsites. Other campers enjoy swimming, boating, and fishing in the sound. The watersports business next door rents kayaks, sailboats, Wave Runners, surfboards, and bicycles (see our Water Sports chapter). But what really keeps campers coming back are the spectacular, unobstructed sunset views. In season, sites with electricity and water hookups start at $25 per night. Tent sites include water and start at $19.25 a night. Hot showers, picnic tables, and a few grills are on-site. If you'd rather not cook, you can grab a pizza from Lisa's Pizza right next door (see our Restaurantschapter). Pets are allowed. Reservations are recommended. Personal checks and credit cards are accepted.

Ramon

I would love to make this trip, but unfortunately, I can't go. So take lots of pics and share them with the group.

I'm a bit confused.

So if we meet there in the afternoon does that mean we drive around and meet back at that location to stay the night. And what are the travle plans for Saturday Sunday.

I'm about ready to right an OPORD for this thing. But then again it really doesn't matter. I'm just along for the ride.

Ohh I figured out how to shift. I was just doing it WAY wrong .

Yeah Ramon...good work on finding the Rodanthe campground. I'm totally getting pumped for the trip!!!

I'm for staying there both nights (is that the plan?) and just day tripping it up to the state line and back on Sat or whatever.

Greg, I'm going to be +1 (my bro)

I like the sounds of that. Having a firebase to come back to everynight sure makes things easier. Being able to have a camp fire and a place to @#$% is always nice (espeically when you get fined for doing it anywhere else)

I'm going back and reading but what day was it we were going to visit with the Land Cruiser guy?

I'm ABSOLUTLY getting stoked for this thing. It doesn't appear that the State line is all that far away and for those that didnt' get to come from the south (Friday group) we could head down that way possibly at some point in time.

Those on sunday could easily do the trip from north, and drive south to Ocracoke, take the ferry across to Cedar Island and drive out from there. would just have to corordinate the trailer/towing issue but thats allowed on the ferry just a bit more $$$$ (I think 30) and you will need a reservation. Just an option.

I'm excited about the trip and will post pictures of tomorrow's and Thursday's findings so everyone has something to look forward to.

Bring ideas for the next ONSC so we can discuss over the weekend and start planning.

Everyone okay with venison and burgers for Friday night, oh and not to mention the local catch of the day?

Would anyone happen to have a cast net they could bring ?

I was thinking it my be nice to try and catch some live bait off the beach for fishing. I can throw one fairly well, but I don't have one anymore.

I'm thinking that I'll be leaving my house about 4:30-5:00 Friday morning. I'd like to catch the Friday caravan if I can. It looks like it would be best if I just take 95 down to 64 in the Rocky Mount area and meet up with you guys along that stretch. I'd like to exchange phone numbers with you if I could. [I have nextel DC]

My wife and I could grab some breakfast, and as you approach we could shoot out on 64 to meet up with you. How's that sound? Other Ideas?

Friday Group.

I spoke with Ramon last night (we are trailering) and we plan on meeting in Rocky Mount around 8:00 am. As of now we are not really planning on traveling with you but I'm sure you speed demons will catch us along the way. We will probably be going about 60 if there any other slow drivers out there that don't think they will catch up with us in their 40's you are welcome to tag along.

We don't have an exactl meeting place (95-64 interchange) but if you are slow as well and want to latch on give me a ring at 503.544.7312

Tim
I booked hotel rooms a week or more ago when we were planning to head North out of Nags Head on Friday.

Friday night, I have a reservation at the Comfort Inn in Kill Devil Hills.
Saturday night, I have a reservation at the Inn at Corolla Lighthouse.

I'm thinking about changing Friday night to the Sea-Sound Motel in Rodanthe to be closer to the camping group. I've only looked at it on the internet...

Guys, made it to Ocracoke safely but Law Enforcement is tough, we've already had one encounter at the local pub, it seems they don't have much to do here besides pester what to some may look like tourists.

Cell phone signal is much to be desired.

Plan is still to meet at campsite on Friday morning. By lunchtime we should have attendance of everyone.

Drive safe and it's going to be a great trip.

Take Care

A little insight.
