Those drag marks on the top slab in the bottom pic of post #31?
Wasn't one of them wet like it sat out in the rain?
Looks like something heavy was set on them during shipment and drug off.

The signs on the pallet, other than the shipping label were;
"Top Load Only"
"Do Not Break Shrink Wrap"
The freight company all but destroyed them. When he got them, they showed up without the shrink wrap and without a pallet with one loose band on the pile. They were also soaking wet. The top plank was destroyed.
I have asked him to post pictures here. Not for the chat purpose but more to show you what can happen during shipping. These will not easily fit in a trailer sideways do to the length. I can imagine a fork lift driver grabbing the end of the pallet and shoving them around or picking up one end and dropping them. It is a mystery to me what really happened. I hope to find out more when the pics come through and I am able to talk to the freight company on monday.

Since for the life of me, I cannot come up with a better, more creative way of loosing money.
The rest of the slabs will be cut up for firewood and burned.
Thanks for looking.

I may want some of the planks. I would pick them up from you in Moab. I'll let you Know on Monday. That is if there are any left.

I think your millright sees deep pockets.

Damn, total bummer on the shipping.
I would take every stinking one of them if you were near here.
I just grabbed 8 pine planks for some of our remodel work. largest is 39" and will just fit in the local shops sander. Taking it in tomorrow to get cleaned up.
Good luck...I'd LOVE to have them.

Minor Thread Hi-jack.
Cut the big slab to size today so I can bring it to the sander.
Should have my little project done in a week or two.
Going to stand it up and hang our flat screen on it...same wall with the Lake Superior views. Should be cool.
TTT for Slab Saturday.

That's a knot. The other side actually has another almost 6" long just to the side of it.
Cabling is going through a pretty small circular hole.
Just found out the guy I got this slab from has two others identical to it that are 5" thick.

So I just got an email, I can buy the two other slabs from the same tree for $500.
These two are 5" thick and HUGE. I'm not sure if I should grab them? Thoughts?
I had the 5 smaller boards cleaned up yesterday at a local wood working shop...turned out awesome.
I'll try to get some pics.
So, are they worth $500? I guess I could clean them up and re-sell them to someone wanting a bar in Green Bay...

The six that I picked up from Dan in Moab made it back to Calgary in the same shape I got them. The guy that bought them is happy with them. He is in the lumber business and plans to resell them as is to be used in rustic furniture I expect.
He says that the warping, cupping and checking is fairly acceptable in that application. Dan's price worked out to around $2.75/bf. The 5" slabs at $250 each is similar. Probably a good price if you can sit on them for a while until a buyer comes along.
Be sure to post pics of the finished product.
