Edit Oct 28, 2020 - this it the old thread - see here for updated info -> Awl_TEQ Metal Parts etc.

I have started this thread to showcase a few things I have made for myself and others during the rebuild and modification of my 45.

Hopefully most of you have seen my reproduction LPB bed thread (link in my sig) and my winch rebuild and subsequent aluminum solenoid cover thread in this section. These products are representative of the type of things I can make. The proceeds of anything I sell go directly into my ongoing BJ45 resto-mod.

To start this thread off I have just finished a small run of 40 series 3B motor brackets. These are the brackets that rivet (or bolt or weld) to the frame rails and will locate your 3B conversion with the correct offset and height when welded or bolted in the correct spot ;). I made a set for myself a while ago and below you will see them in use. They are 3/16" thick and identical to the original in all respects.

These are offered at $90.00 a set plus shipping

In the center is a factory set I used to build from. The "top plate" is not welded on yet in this pic.

I have a few other things in the works. One I am ready to mention is the vacuum tank. This is the large oval shaped vacuum reservoir normally mounted under the left side of the tub on the outside of the frame rail. Mud and debris collects between the tank and the mounting bracket and rusts it through rendering it useless. I am currently building a prototype out of stainless and will be reproducing the mounting bracket as well (it won't be stainless). The thought is to powder coat the tank and bracket gloss black to look original. No price yet.

Another item I can supply is stainless steel battery trays. I made some for my build to fit two group 31 batteries. Now, my build is custom so the larger batteries fit. I can make them any size you want or even your own design. Battery trays like these or original size are priced at $70.00 each

I have 79-84 rear sills for your rusted 40 also. This part is in beta testing (sold one to see how well it fits for him). These are exactly like the originals with a couple small differences where it doesn't matter (i.e. the recess for the doors doesn't end in a rounded fashion but in a square corner - it's covered by the side panel anyway) One thing I have to add still is the holes and captured nuts for the tire carrier etc. I will add them as soon as I figure out where they are :hillbilly:
These will be about $250.00 once I add the captured nuts.

I will be doing earlier sills once I get some measurements and time; they will be a bit cheaper because they are easier to make.

Continued from post #4

I have now located all of the captured nuts in the 79-84 rear sill

Here are some pics of one I just did - the two halves are not welded together yet cuz the paint was still wet (I painted the inside where you can't get to later with a really cool stainless steel paint I have at work that can be spot welded through)

These are available now (ship in ten days kinda thing) for $250.00 complete

The inner piece with drain channels like the factory

Floating stainless steel captured nuts for the door catch (M6)

Captured M8 nuts for the lower tire hinge and M6 for the rubber stopper and latch

I'll catch you next time :D

we both know there will be another 40 coming

How about 74 - 78 rear sills?

Sure, what do they look like?

what side is the spare on and what kind of rack is it - round tube or box frame?

I don't have a sample to locate holes but the overall size should be the same.

The one you showed for the 79 looks like my 77 from what I can tell, I'm sure a fellow mudder knows the differences. I will need one some day but for now I am assembling to enjoy some summer (if it shows up here in Western WA) My spare is drivers side round tube

Ok - I'll do some rambling thinking out loud here

I have the E-74 sill figured out. It had the stamped sheet metal tire carrier on either the left or right side with the 4 bolt horizontal latch. The sill was a simple channel shape. It was covered with a skin that welded to the quarters and gate sides.

From 01/75 to 08/76 the sill had the recessed catch and lip for the doors but kept the older style carrier (stamped sheet metal) and latch. It was still a two piece affair with a channel shape and a skin. Left side tire carrier only???

From 09/76 to 12/78 the only change was the style of carrier from stamped to tube and the latch/ bumper to match. Left side carrier only???

The 01/79 to 84 sill had the tubular carrier and it was only on the left side (nothing is absolute though) - it had the rubber bumper and the angled smaller latch. The sill was composed of two stamped sheet metal parts that formed a rectangular tube. It had access holes on the top to get at the mounts, recess for the door catch, recessed lip for the doors, drain channels underneath.

Anyone have better info?
Kevin

That's what I was wondering also. I will replace mine someday and wanted to know the difference. I saw the E-74 and the 79 - 84 listed but found myself in the middle.

I can make the 1/75 - 8/76 as well as the 9/76 - 12/78 sills. I would just have to double check the body mount locations and make sure they didn't move.

Roberto,

Just replied to your PM about the snorkel...

The stainless vacuum tank is going to be $245.00 and is the same size, shape and identical in regard to the fittings as the original. It is however manufactured differently. The ends of the tank are flat and TIG welded in rather than stamped and pinch welded in. The tank is powder coated black to look original - but it won't rust out like the original. I also have the mounting bracket for the tank for $50.00. It is not stainless and ships in the "raw". I will take some pictures tomorrow and post them up here.

Kevin
