I've had great success on several occasions removing the rear hatch glass with gasket and trim intact, setting aside while painting/repairing the hatch, then reinstalling the glass and gasket.
I did this on my FJ62 - worked great. You do not...

Be very careful removing that tint. Those defrost lines are very, very fragile.
I found the best way is to cut a black garbage bag to fit the glass surface area. Soak film with ammonia, affix cut garbage bag to glass, place in sun...
I would perform a leak down check now to identify any issues on the head or with rings. Will be super easy w the manifolds off. If leak down is good, then consider leaving it.
If leakdown identifies issues w the head, then that’s a good...
The PO had the head gasket replaced (for some reason) on my '89 before I got it, at 234K, but obviously, 3FEs rarely blow gaskets.
If it burns oil, but has good compression, then pulling the head and having the valve seals replaced might make...
I would remove the batteries completely and leave with a friend or a shop on a trickle charger. They will get destroyed in a storage unit, with heat and not being charged for 2 years. I second the notion of rodent poison in the storage container...
For the spring - are there Ace Hardware stores in Canada? Or can you find a spring online?
You might remove the entire latch and soak it in mineral spirits and clean it with a toothbrush. Then inspect it for wear and clean/lube or just replace it.
I’ll just say this; I’ve got $90 in two Chinesium front seat bottoms and could not be more pleased with their look, fit, and definitely cost. I got the first for $55 and the second for $35. They have been on for 2 years and still look great, with...
Before you start, power wash the engine (with the engine cool) around the intake manifold. As you remove the manifold, have a shop vacuum (big one) handy to suck up all the crap that will fall (or try to) into the valve train. I did this job on...
This appears to be rust on the body, not tailgate. I think it's water/salt/slop under the truck creeping around the hinge mount.
You'll have to find where it starts, stop it, and the buff the rust stain off the paint where it's showing. The...
Try to start with starting fluid is a lot easier than replacing fuel pump for troubleshooting. You have fuel issue if it starts with starting fluid, otherwise you have electrical or air (vacuum leak) issue.
It's been a while, but I've been busy tackling quite a bit of deferred maintenance left behind by the previous owner. Here is an update since installing the Clutch MC and fuel pump.
Carburetor:
I sent the carburetor out to @65swb45 for a...
To the OP: After you paint it, hand-rub axle grease into the rust-prone underbody spots (any place 2 panels meet). I made/added rear wheel guards (using mudflap rubber) to keep mud/sand/water out of the rear turn signal/tub area, and buried those...
I probably should have started this thread a couple weeks ago when I first picked this thing up but I'll start from the beginning. I saw this truck listed on facebook so far out a message to the guy and ended up talking on the phone with him for...
I have a pair of front door seals (the part that attaches to the door, not the seal in the door frame). Used, from my '99. Very clean, but a few minor tears in the hidden part that clips to the door. 95% of the clips are there - a few got broken...
Hey all,
This is my first post here. Since I couldn't find the information prior to doing the repair, I figured I'd put the knowledge out there for others that run into the same issue.
My 2003 Landcruiser with 250k miles died on the road...
