The issue is caused by its being an Fj60. Same reason they have carb cooling fan.

They have a carb cooling fan to help prevent heat soak from the exhaust directly under the carb; too much and it'll vapor lock.

Are you having overheating issues? I'm no expert but you shouldn't need to do that; better to address the root cause of the overheating issue imo.
