I wanted to update this thread and report that I have solved the issue.....
It wasn't properly grounded! The starter battery was grounded to the chassis and not the frame rail. Since the bus bar for the Lithium house side was grounded to the...
I'm not trying to get into a pissing match but I think the logic of putting a non-us Toyota diesel into a US Toyota truck just because it's Toyota is not sound. Parts are hard to get, no one knows them. yea, they are cool but I just don't see...
LZO is the current one and I think it's mostly the same motor just updated emissions. I think they put some of the emissions sensors closer to the turbo to ensure a cleaner burn.... something like that? I know that's a real elementary assessment.
I would in a heartbeat and that's coming from a guy who literally just replaced mine about 6,000 miles ago with a brand new one totaling almost $18,000! If I could do it again I would do this swap instead.
I was wondering about that. There is a ton of emissions equipment post turbo that initially ruled out the engine for me due to possible clearance issues, besides the ECM being locked. At the time, I didn't know my state doesn't care about...
This.
If you come to Idaho, I'll drive the 2.5hrs to DVS to see this beast. We have a Suburban with the Mini-Max in it and I have daydreamed about that motor in my 80. I gotta see this thing so that we can convince Dave to create a swap-kit...
Time for a little update. So I’ve got the truck up and driving after a hard battle with a no shift situation lol. Ended up being either a bad TCM or it didn’t take the tune very well. These new GM engine and transmissions are no joke when it...
Of all the possible engine swaps that aren't Toyota engines, this is by far the most sensible one. It retains the inline six personality, removes spark plugs, and adds turbo. I dig it.
Time to try it out
So I drove it another 2000 mile round trip to Colorado to do the red cone trail and some others
Here is a little video we did while we are out there
So the truck did great on the trip, had plenty of power in the mountains...
