well, if you want to go small and cheap, there are 300W chinese inverters on amazon that are fairly highly rated for $25.... If not, the sky's the limit...

Yes, but if people only have a 12V cigarette lighter connector, more like 84W. Fairly similar to the Makita. Slow. The dual bays 120V Makita charger is about 460W. Milwaukee maybe a bit higher? I'd probably go with a 1000W inverter if $$ is...

Makita has one -not cheap either-, but it's rated at only 70W IIRC, probably because of the issue of potential cigarette lighter socket overloading. So it would be quite slow compared to my 120V rapid charger at 240W, I'm guessing it would...

No guru here, but I would think the safest and most accurate way to figure this out if you want to go the inverter route, is to check the specs on the charger you plan to use. No guessing then, as that will tell you -in principle- the max power...

^^ sometimes "dumb" is enough, but when it comes to this sort of equipment, I would prefer something smart enough that it doesn't burn my camper down... :)

IIRC, I saw a wood lathe attachment, which is what I was interested in. I would not expect to be able to do metal lathe work on this, though.

always been intrigued by those Shopsmiths. Never used one though. I'm suspecting it's one of those cases of "can do a lot of things, but not as well as dedicated tools". I do see them every so often offered for free on Craigslist, although...

e9999 replied to the thread 2 Alternators = double Output?.
I'd want to make sure that I get a DC-DC charger that gives me full control over when to start and stop the charging automatically, or you could end up having a bad surprise with a depleted starting battery.

e9999 replied to the thread 2 Alternators = double Output?.
yes, I don't think that having 2 charging devices in parallel with a battery is a problem in general, well, at least assuming that the charging devices have feedback control based on battery voltage. It's like with solar charge controllers, it's...

e9999 replied to the thread 2 Alternators = double Output?.
OP, sounds like you were entertaining the idea of connecting a standard (dumb?) alternator directly to an LFP battery. I'd be wary of doing that and would want to have full control over the charging voltages etc instead, so no direct connection...

^ good (if a bit of a downer) point!

I suppose it's possible that a faulty sensor might affect the trans - I don't know exactly how or why admittedly- but how would that have several emissions monitors be switched to "not ready" ?
    • e9999
well, astonishingly, all has been well for over a week. Trans shifts smoothly as usual in and out of 4th and 5th. No problem. No codes or incomplete monitors to be seen. Must have been a freaky electrical glitch. Would like to know what...

Mooooommmm! Not fair! How come he gets all the nice toys...! :)
    • e9999
Thanks and, yes, it seems that the weird issue of monitors not ready is either a freaky coincidence or a strong hint that something electrical happened. No trans filter? Weird. I had assumed there is one. ('03 here) So far, it's driving just...

interesting, will look into that, thanks
    • e9999
yes, that was PLA. I usually don't use a brim (outside of stability issues) because I never had significant liftups before. Very minor ones but this big one was a striking first. That was on a makerspace printer and I don't have control over...

I printed a large rectangular lid for a collet box. It was large (about 200mmx150mm) and also thicker than I normally do (2.5mm this time), so to avoid it taking 9hrs I used a thicker bead than usual: 0.25mm speed -first time- rather than my...
    • e9999
yes, could be, those monitors not ready is what I normally see after disconnecting the battery. I'll go test it. added: battery appears to be on the weak side (12.4V after about 30mins driving today) but is not obviously bad. Hard to believe...

      Not me having moved it.
    • e9999
with an 83, I think (not sure) you'll have to smog test it to register it in CA. I'd suggest being careful about that because that could prove difficult/expensive if it does not pass the test / has been modified / was not originally cleared for...
    • e9999
could be indeed. Oddly, today it drove just fine, changed gears nicely. Not a problem. And no more incomplete monitors per the OBD. So, looks like something happened with the battery / comm system / computers that created an odd situation...
    • e9999
No OBD code that I can see. Oddly, there are 4 incomplete monitors, though. No idea why that would be, I have driven it a good bit since the last battery disconnect.
    • e9999
I don't have techstream. Would one of those OBD2 readers that can see sensor readings work for that? This is an '03 if it matters.
    • e9999
thanks! good to know about that coolant temp circuit. Would not have thought of that. I don't recall that the temp reading on the dash was off but will check.
