george_tlc replied to the thread Alternator Upgrade and fusing.
Yeah you want a fusible link between alternator and battery. Also between battery and main vehicle feeds/fuse blocks. The starter motor is a direct feed from the battery (via a relay/contactor). Winch direct to battery, preferably with a high...

Torque pro for when I need to find an OBD2 issue (with the vehicles that have OBD2). Maybe once or twice a year. Google maps, handy for traffic problems - until you escape the hordes. Life360 is handy for a family (that trusts each other). I...

i'm a proud papa, no lie. She enlisted her mom's help (lives a mile down the street) to come and help tear the top end down for a HG project on her 3rd gen Runner last year. Oh yeah, she built the bumpers on her rig at my house two years ago...

That heater valve on the firewall that looks brown in the picture - REPLACE before it falls apart and leads to overheating and sadness... Given the sardine can clamps on the hoses - they are more than likely all original - I'd be looking at...

Yep, it's basically and old school thermostat for the AC. My 1980 patrol in oz that had dealer installed AC has a similar thing. Set & forget. Of course the old patrol's AC is long dead and disconnected. cheers, george.

george_tlc replied to the thread Getting a click no crank..
Simple test is turn on headlights. Try to crank, do the headlights dim or go off? There's multiple grounds, one from the battery to the block. Another from the battery to the fender. Then there's a few from the block/head area to the firewall...

I didn't want to start a new thread on replacing the brake booster so i'm posting up my experience from last weekend. I purchase a new MC and BB from City Racer and swapped out the 30 year old OEM BB + MC. The OEM unit pulled out w/o lifting the...

An idea of what is ahead - it's my oz diesel patrol that was stock 24V that I converted to 12V. Nissan initially released the mq patrol as a 24V vehicle, but a few years later dropped 24V and went 12V. I had a donor POS that a grabbed lots of...

And you only remove the top 'half' of the intake manifold, so other than some long extensions to reach some of the bolts that are only accessible from below, it's an easy job. To be 'factory correct', just have a new metal gasket on hand ready...

Good debugging. Yep, the VSV can become intermittent, working for a bunch of time and then getting stuck. So, code comes, goes away, comes back. Eventually it just gets stuck and the code will continue to return even after clearing with a...

george_tlc replied to the thread Can this rust be treated.
Probably the tip of the iceberg - there's probably heaps more in other areas of the vehicle. Coastal 4wd? Had too much fun driving on the beach and into the salty water? Or trips into the bush driving across/into salt lakes etc? Good luck, sad...

There is no starter relay on a USDM 80 Series. The starter has an internal solenoid.

My one person solution. I can move it in/out of the vehicle on my own and it's low enough to have plenty of room to heave myself in and out and also has lots of storage underneath for a bunch of plastic totes that contain food, cooking gear...

george_tlc replied to the thread Brake booster rebuild kit.
It didn't have a brand on it. I had done a bunch of searching on mud and there use to be a recommended replacement (that may or may not have been oem), but it no longer exists or is available. I then saw quite a few folk (some of the mud...
