My new Adventures in Yota land

As some of you may know, I sold my FJ60 (Big Green) to make way for a super awsome rig.

I purchased Dave Beattie's FJ40, and brought her home on Sunday. After much painful deliberation
over selling my FJ60, I decided it was time for a new rig, and Dave's 40 was perfect.

Thanks to Dave and Randy for all the work on the rig before I picked her up, and a big thanks to Randy
for helping me pack up, and ship out!

Here she is with the hard top on!

A few more...

Oh, and the TOW dolly lights...Anyone remember the Petzel Advertisement with the headlamp taped to the headlight of an FJ60? Well, I did it for real! The tail lights on the Uhaul Tow Dolly died, so I taped a few headlamps (with red LED's) on the tail lenses, and made it all the way from mass to Rochester NY> I even had a state trooper pull up next to me, and 'admire' my hack lighting job! LOL

Congrats Jon and what a sweet truck that is. Looking forward to seeing you on the trails in that beasty.

You have now rendered your screen name irrelevant!

Nice rig! I should know since I owned it earlier. It is a great truck and I'm glad to see that it's staying relatively local. I owned it when it went from mild-mannered street Cruiser to off-road beastie. My company has a Rochester office, so if you see someone suspicious looking doing a drive-by of your house some time, it might be me. I'm sure that Randy and Dave have set you up well, but feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Hey Bill!

So, what gears are in the diffs? Stock 373s or 411s?

Trimmin some weight off the rear, eh? Nice score man! I left some blood and sweat somewhere on that rig years ago.

You're one of the few people I know that's got TWO headlamps on standby, with red lenses to boot! Keep on keepin on...

Nice Rig. But you should of bought an 80. Selling a 60 to buy a 40 is just going backwards IMO. I would never sell my 80 for a 40. But that's just me.
I'll really miss wheeling with Big Green and hearing the clank clank noise it made.

You're just jealous that we have manual transmissions and you don't

Thanks for all the kind words!

I'm still torn about selling Big Green, but it was time for a 40. The long term plan is to have the 40 for 'real' wheelin', and in the next few years build up a FJ45 troopy for the family wheeler. (thanks for the inspiration Randy!!!)

...can't wait to get this beast out on the trail!

Big Green ended up in the Albany area. There's a chance we'll see it wheeling with us on the trails at some point. The guy who bought it is a toyota nut...it when to a good home!

That's the whole point!

You can't underestimate the seductive power of old, antiquated, topless, bone jarring, simplistic, short wheel base, I don't need no stinkin' OBD, pucker factor 40's. That said, it's comfy wheeling in an 80 recliner with built-in drink holders.

Wrench, have you owned a 40? Just curious.

I have owned several SUV's (no 80's) and they are great, but there is no feeling like an open top truck in the woods. Some sort of freedom comes from no doors and a dropped windshield. Sort of like a giant ATV rather than a comfy couch.

No never owned a 40.
But there are advantages and disadvantages for both rigs. I bought my 80 for the out of box capability. Even though at this point I have modded the crap out of it.

Chris has an 80, but wheels it like a 40. Not bashful at all.
