YT Wheeling Schedule '09

June 27-28 Kina's Camping on site Some Class 6 nearby, Moderate level on site, 33's?

July 11-12 Carnage Camping at Shir-Roy campground in Richmond. Stock run nearby in Swanzey. Carnage is Moderate, suggest 33's and a locker or winch. Open can do it
but team up with someone who is willing to help you out.

Aug 29-30 Moose Mountain Springfield NH Moderate, 33's and a locker. Muddy.

Sept Open, maybe do Wambus, Moderate, 33's and a locker.

All the trails can be done open with at least 33's. Just put yourself at the back of the line with a buddy to help you so
we can keep the rest of the group moving.
If you are at all worried about body damage stay off Moderate trails!

FYI, the NEA has officially upgraded the trail rating for the Wombus Pass from Moderate to Hard. It's getting "bony" in there and to prevent serious trail braiding they have blocked the go-rounds that were emerging around that first big ledge. If you can't get up it, winch or take a strap.

If anyone wants to do the gutter here in scenic Leverett- throw out some dates. I live a half mile away but haven't done it yet! NTC claims it's "stocker friendly" they MAY be right...

I've never run Gutter or Old Florida Rd, I'd be interested at some point this summer if I ever get a free weekend day.

Let's just keep in mind a detail though...

Quote:
Due to environmental concerns the NEA4WDC is suggesting that its 26 member clubs refrain from traveling a certain trail at Rattlesnake Gutter. This trail is located off the powerline trail and is the first trail entrance that breaks East off the powerline, there is an old snowmobile bridge marking the entrance of this trail. The specific reason we are suggesting people not travel this trail is on account of the severe amount of mud and trail widening/braiding that has occurred in attempts to get around the muddy section.

Please understand that this suggestion is for this one trail section only, other trail sections are open for use. Please also understand that this is private land open for public use. The NEA4WDC has no legal right to impose closures on this land, we can only make suggestions to our members who benefit from using the land, hoping they abide by this in order to minimize environmental impacts and keep the trails open for many years to come.

This is a temporary closure, we are actively working on a plan to remedy the environmental concerns and re-open the trail as soon as we can. If you would like to be involved in working on this or any other aspect of what the NEA4WDC does, please contact your club delegate and they can point you in the right direction.

Sincerely,

Scott Hatch, Exec. VP of Environmental Affairs
NEA4WDC

Gary and I have also briefly discussed putting together a stock-to-moderate run in our area of the Green Mountain State as well. We need to map it, prerun it and plan it still but hopefully at some point we will get to it.

Might be nice to figure out a run north of us in the Woodstock area as well, we could use Long Trail Brewery and it's excellent restaurant as the end point.

glad to see some effort into putting some trips together.

One of the trips that I did last year was the OTMT trip to NC. They are in the planning stages right now. It has been at Tellico but that will likely change do to it's closing. I'll keep everyone informed. This is a UC event so joining that club would be necessary to attend.

All I know is that they are expecting it to close and looking for a new venue for the OTMT event.

Yes, we need more
that bridgewater loop is fun Dave, Barnard to long trail was always a good run back in the day
a LR guy named peter has some wheelin property in Barnard which would link to those trials as well thru chateugue...

been thinkin about the wolfeboro property lately
does DWE still own rights?

The property was sold, I'm pretty sure Roy said that they can no longer use it.

It's a YT event if there is any interest. I will not be going so people will need to get organized on their own.
Remember that it only takes 2 rigs to have a good day of wheeling!

Is any one going to step up to lead this?
I'm hoping to have the 40 ready for this and if so I could lead (iffy though right now) but if not there's no way I'm taking the Cruiser back out there, it already has taking a beating from this place.

I would be interested in the 29th. Going to the NEA Swanzey trail cut on the 30th. I could pretend to be trail leader, but I've only been there once to cut one trail.

Is there any interest in this at all?
Junior, I'm still not 100% on this(trying to line up a trailer) but the 29th is looking good, I'll know either tonight or tomorrow.
I'm fine if it's just you and I but would like to see a few more rigs out there.

If there is a run I'm in with the Sammy. Seems this is the only place I can find the time for. I know the Class VI run in as well in case anyone forgot directions.

So do we want to set up a time for Saturday?
Does Meeting up at 9:30 at the Blackwater Junction Restaurant (730 Main St, Andover, NH ) work for everyone?

Family was going to have family day at a state park...but with 100% rain in the forecast, may as well go wheeling. Can 32s w/ a locker be alright? Never been on these trails.

Haven't been up yet this year. There is a class VI run to the site that should be fine assuming it hasn't changed much. On the property last year I ran my Samurai on 27" snow tires on just about every trail, albeit with some help and down hill on the harder ones. Stinkyfinger probably has a better perspective on it.

9:30am at the Blackwater works for me.

I would say so as long as it's got some good tires, you can do it. If this place was dry it would only have a rating on the low end of moderate but because the property is one big underground spring it's always wet and muddy and puts the rating on the high end of moderate right to the hard level, depending which trail you take.
