You can have mine from the troopie...

I like em all Brian... I like the Metal Tech ones enough that if you could get the front and rear for the same price of the front of the others then I'd get the Metal Tech. Especially w/ the lights. Sweet.

If you do decide on the MT and want to order and see if we can save on shipping....let me know.. I'm about to order a roll bar setup for the Troopy from LT at Metal Tech..

Good luck w/ your decision. Looks like you can't make a bad one

Oh cool, I'll get with you on that Scott. I'll have to check and see how long it would take them to get the stuff made though. Your rollbar might be ready long before they can get to mine.

I never liked tube bumpers myself. They always leave the cheapest/easiest/homemade impression upon me. At least I don't think I'd want to spend much on a tube bumper myself. That said, no doubt they can be super strong and practical too. I've seen them capped with a schrader / presta valve fitted for compressed air, etc. I prefer to reserver tubing for cages, nerf bars, roll cages, etc myself.

I LIKE the combination of tubing with angled/ARB /metaltech though...just not for the MAIN bumper. I prefer the look and function of the flat plate like ARB for that. Seen pictures of accidents head-on with ARB and that thing is strong...and looks great too! of course its more than twice cost of tube.

Yep I'm really torn between them now. I think regardless of what front I get I will go with the metaltech rear bumper. I like the protection on the sides from it.

Mine is ready to go but no worries. I told LT I'd get w/ him after the holidays.

Just let me know if you decide to go that way and no worries if not.

I'm gonna ship it to the FedEx Freight Depot and go pick it up there. Easier.

Well after thinking some more and my typical flip flopping I think I'm going to get the ARB front and metaltech rear. Metaltech is an ARB dealer so we can still do it together. I'm not sure when they will have rear bumpers ready to ship, last I heard was after Christmas. If you are already waiting until after then it should work out.

Do you know how long the fedex place will hold shipments? It's always possible that I will be gone when something arrives.

I sent a message to Mark at metaltech about this also.

My self I like a tube bumper pretty well, weight is alot less I would imagine. Mine when I went to put it on I didnt need suports or a helping hand to put on, just held it in place with one hand, and started the threads with the other (a lip was resting on top of the frame though)

Another thing is that winch access is alot easier than on a plate bumper, atleast the ones I have seen in person.

That road armor one looks plenty bad ass though

EDIT:

Didn't read this page and see that you had allready decided what you where getting already.

...or go with super-sized tubing, cap both ends, schrader valve, fill with compressed Helium...

I dont know, wouldnt compressed helium weigh about the same as air at ambient pressure?

J/K of course, but it would obviously depend on whether or not you compressed it to liquid state or not....and since your massively thick-walled tube bumper would indeed allow such extreme pressures, I'd say that liquid helium would be about 7 times lighter than liquid air. (air is mostly Nitrogen btw) since liquid Helium weighs about 1lb/gal and liquid air over 7lbs/gal.

But, regardless of how you look at it, you'd be adding weight of course...

What weighs more: pound of gold or pound of helium? LOL

It's pretty hard to get Helium to liquid state...usually only commercially available as a liquid since it is so hard to do....

Anyway, just for fun, think about this: as compressed gases, neither one would way much...a 70ci tank at 3000psi of air = just over 10 ounces of air and the same tank with Helium would add 1.4 ounces of weight to your bumper....

LMAO....

Josh, thanks for the input. I was really sold on the tube bumper till mike reminded me of some things about the plate bumpers. I did hit a deer in a company truck in Arkansas a couple of months ago and it really wiped out the front end. I think the ARB will help me keep up with the arms race on the highways too, more mass is better LOL.

Ok I have a few things I'm thinking about now.

1. I never bought a new truck before, or mod one for that matter. Everything is more expensive. Grr when the mod madness first hit I was a little blinded to it, now I want to just get everything done and stop buying **** LOL.

2. Winches: Warn M8000 is probably big enough for my truck @ about $700
Warn 9.5XP will supposedly resist corrosion and **** better @ about $1000
Could also go with a XD9000 for about $850

3. Front Bumper: Settled on ARB now. Metaltech said they could do it for $1170 shipped at any time.
The problem is there is a set of IPF fog lights that go in the bumper. I do not think
they are included with the Metaltech price. I'm waiting for word on that now.
I have found the bumper + lights @ performanceproducts4trucks.com --
The site says $1168 shipped.

The light set alone is stupid expensive, about $300

4. Often the shipping costs change between a commercial address with loading dock or a residence, because of the weight of the bumper. It is often a difference of $60 - $100. I'm guessing the free shipping prices are to a commercial dock. Does anyone know someone with such a dock that I could ship to? 75% of the time I will be working so I could not pick it up right away.

Any thoughts?

Only that it sounds like a sweet setup bud, new winch, bumper and lights. Sorry no help with the dock.

Don't worry about this... we'll tell em that we will actually pick up the stuff in my truck and we DON'T want to pay shipping beyond FedEx Freight... not to our house or a dock. It should all fit in the truck w/o a problem and they're happy to help you load it.

Just did this w/ the Troopy springs.

What is considered a commercial dock? I may be able to help.

Ok good news. I talked to Mark at metaltech and he was more than happy to see if ARB would waive some fees so that he could pricematch the bumper and lights from the other site. I'm waiting for the answer now.

Sparkpulg - the commercial address is one where they have a loading dock.

Mark also said the best thing is just to have it shipped to Lafayette and have them hold it at the fedex place until I get home. He said the box that the bumper comes in is huge, but I can cut it open and the bumper comes in 3 pieces that I can fit inside an FJ.

Scott, he also still has me on the list for a rear bumper, so when they get that made we can throw them together for the shipping savings.

Deal.

Do whatever you wish about leaving your bumper there but I can pick it up for you (wouldn't mind a bit) and would be willing to bet it's safer at my house than there

I'd be glad to store it for you if you like.

Scott,

I appreciate that, and I'd like to do it. Mark just sent me a message that he can do $1288 for bumper/lights/shipping, so i am jumping on it. I may have to put your name on it though because it probably has to be signed for. I will talk to Mark about it and see if he knows how to do it. I guess just put your name on it just like it was a gift?

Deal is done! They also know the guy who makes the FJ40 bezel fairleads so they are going to send one of those too. Scott, I put both our names on the shipment, so Fedex will call me when they get it in. If I'm home I'll go get it, if not I will give you a call.
