I just created a simple little DOS program that calculates gear ratio and tells you your speed at 1k-5k rpm. If anyone wants it, send me a pm and I will email it to you.

I made one a while back in excel if you want to check it out. I was bored at work and wanted to mess around with gearing and doublers.
Gear calculator.xls - Windows Live
I linked to it on marlin, pirate and here. it aint much but it was the best I could manage in an afternoon. Wish I knew how to program one that would not require excel like in Java or flash or somethign along those lines.

My old one is pretty much the same except uglier because I only intended to use it myself. Basically the same info without the colors and explanation. I then took it and made it into a small program for ease of use and to make available for people without Excel. I did it for practice more than anything.
I used to be heading into the direction of being the world's greatest IT guy but I strayed into the electronics field for few years and now I am in oil well cementing. I want to use some of my IT knowledge on my days off to stay fresh because I hope to get back into it someday. Right now I am playing with C++, then maybe .NET or something like that. It keeps me from feeling like I am wasting my off days.
I see you have a Honda Shadow now. I'm still up for riding sometime if you want. A co-worker just bought an '07 VTX1300 and we'll probably be riding through your area sometime as we plan on hitting some of the scenic rural areas of southern LA.

On a truck without all the emisions **** controls wouldnt it just be a vented gas cap?

[QUOTE=my81fj;4671912]is there a vent on the gas tank? I'm sure there is but I have no clue where it would be.[/QUOTE
if said tank has only a single fuel line & no other fittings then it must have a vented cap
if it has two fuel lines AKA supply & return then in can use a vented cap but most prob has some kind of vac vent system.
to help in locating vent need the following .
?#1 what kinda gas tank
?#2 is it on a vehicle or some kind of equipment
?#3 what is the appx age of #1 or #2

Not sure the layout on the 81 Corey the 77 & 78 models have a vent system that flows through the charcoal canister. Also has a little plastic coil vent right above the gas tank filler on pass side. My 70 had a vented camp and no charcoal system. I'll look to see what else I can find.

I have searched but have not had much success in locating a 5:28 ring and pinion re-gear for a 97 FZJ-80. Does anyone know who sells the best set out there? Thanks.

Go to 80 tech and to search, type regear, you'll get all kinda threads.
It would be a 5:29, don't go with the Sierra's I have.
Slee has Nitro but only go up to 4:88's
Slee - Drivetrain - Gears and Lockers
TPI sell the Precision
TPI4x4

Thanks Larry. Maybe that is why I couldn't find them. 5.28 doesn't compute.

Not sure on that one but as Albert puts it everything is Doable you would want to weld in some reinforcement metal on the inside of the rear quarters so when you bolted it up it wouldn't peel back the metal on the trails. I thought about doing the same with a factory 80 carrier but I need the bumper carrier for the extra stuff.

Yeah, I was thinking it should work with some fab work. I almost expected someone to come back with a reason why it was impossible.
