Oh god>.< let me see. From what I understand the reason tires dont balance is because parts of the carcass are thinner than others, the thin parts are lighter... AWW hell I am not going to try and figure it out... GOOGLE TO THE RESCUE!!!!

How It Works

Why it works

Gots some purty pictures too :B

P.S. what I was thinking was right, but for the wrong reasons.

They also have a chart that guestimates how much weight you would have to add. says I would need aprox 10 oz per tire on a 36 12.50 15... seems low but like they say, the weight is all the way out at the tread rather than 10 inches from it. so maybe 10 oz could asctually do the same work as 2-3 pounds of lead.

Today on the highway my check engine light came on and shortly there after the cruise control stopped working properly. A search in the 100 forum showed that another guy had the same issue and the code reader at Autozone said vehicle speed sensor.

Thoughts? Is there a way for me to check the codes like I could with the paper clip on the 62 or just bring to Autozone/Toyota shop for sure?

EDIT: Vehicle is tip top otherwise as far as I know.

I can scan it for you Marty I keep my scan tool in the 80. I think its a safety funtion because when mine tripped the light my cruise didn't work either it may depend on the code.

What was your code telling you?

It'll scan all OBII vehicles though if there is no engine light its not a hard fault and no code will be there.

P0420

The catalytic converter has an oxygen sensor in front and behind it. When the vehicle is warm and running in closed loop mode, the upstream oxygen sensor waveform reading should fluctuate. The downstream O2 sensor reading should be fairly steady. Typically the P0420 code triggers the Check Engine if the readings of the two sensors are similar. This is indicative of (among other things) a converter that is not working as efficiently as it should be (according to specs). It is part of the vehicle emissions system.

I've replaced both O2 sensors, converters and it'll run great on the highway but as soon as I get into stop and go traffic around town the light comes back. Still runs fine so I keep the scan tool to check it every so often or clear when I go on a highway drive. My manifold is leaking now so I think thats still causing it to trip the light but I'm waiting to tackle it with a couple other things like the leaking vavle cover, high idle start up issue and I'll put some new plugs and wires while its all down. Its just going to take up a weekend to tear it down and clean it up and I've not had a weekend to spare yet

Thanks Larry.

Now school me on the tool that checks the code. While I had the 62, I got into a habit of always checking the gauges and had to break myself of that when I got the 100. With these aging vehicles, I guess this might be a good tool to carry along.

With the 100 its a OBII vehicle which means you have a ton of sensors measuring and looking at everything. If you keep and eye on your gauges and make sure they are reporting correctly you won't need to keep such a close eye on it as with the 62. You do have sensors that report to your gauges temp, oil and etc so its good to keep an eye out to make sure they are not acting up and if so replace them. I use to use Autozone to pull in and check my codes when I needed but the tool they use came down in price to $89 normally $120 so I picked one up. Its nice to have in the tool box and quickly access when needed.

MOST F THE TIME O2`S WON`T clear PO420

they prob would not hurt to change due to age& millage but most times takes an OEM CAT. then a drive cycle to make the computer happy $$$$$$$
if it is running ok & fuel consumption isn`t down let it be

Silver truck was not running to good over the weekend . It was running with a miss in the engine, like an electrical miss. So I started pulling spark plugs 1,2,3 looked good in color. Pulled #4 and it was wet but did not smell like fuel . Disconnected the coil and turned the engine over and was introduced to a antifreeze/water bath from the sparkplug hole.

Is this a bad thing ?

Not if you're trying to keep that #4 cylinder cool I'm sorry to hear that. On a good note, not that there is one, I'd rather do that 22R head job than my 3F (knocking on my desk) If you want company I'll be happy to help I actually enjoyed working on the 22R's I might even have a timing set with plastic guides from my Dads truck laying around if you want them. They were still in a box last time I ran into them. He traded in the truck before I could do the job.

Lets tear down, as the red neck from Trick my Truck would say.

Yea, I knew that was not a good sign, but atleast I did not have to trouble shoot to long to find.

Larry thanks I would like to take you up on that offer.I believe once I have all the parts lined up that I will make plans to pull the engine one weekend ,put it on the engine stand send the head off to get reworked, reassemble during midweek and on the following weekend put it back in. Once I figure out what weekends I'll let ya'll know It sure goes eaiser with extra hands to pull and reinstall.

Yae I guess the green glow is accurate now

Got a question. My 80 has been driven like 3 times since January and every time I start it up it smells VERY strong of unburnt gas for a few minutes. No smoke or water coming from exhaust. Any ideas on what may be happening?

Not to familiar with your engine but if it were a 22re I would say that it is just your cold start injector. That is, if it goes away after warming up. See if it goes away after running it more with fresh gas. Does it seem like it's running alright after the smell goes away?

After a few minutes the smell goes away. Seems to run fine and loves lots of gas after a minute or two. Thanks. Isaac

Yeah, my best guess would be that it's the cold start injector dumping a ton of fuel into the engine. After the temperature sensor sees a good running temp, it sends the signal to cut that injector off.

Start it and let it warm up, shut if off and start it again before it has time to cool. If you don't notice the smell on a warm start, then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If you still smell the unburnt gas, then I would start looking into the ignition and air systems.

Isaac

when you say " unburned" you mean rich exhaust--- or raw fuel?

Sounds like a good deal. Wheel spacers should help. I am not an expert but maybe someone else can chime in.
