sometime early this winter that just passed, i turned off the little a/c button that normally has a little green light on it. well now its summer and i pushed the button to turn it back on and the green light wont come on and it blows hot. im guessin that this button is for the a/c compressor? well anyway i bought a new button hoping that it would be the problem and it didn't fix it. anyone have any idea what the hell is wrong?

compressor clutch or in the wiring

I changed the oil, transmission, t-case, and rear diff fluids today in the 40. It's not so stinky anymore! Kinda smells like roses now.

Oh I managed to make a huge mess. That stuff is disgusting. Even the brand new stuff stinks. I was able to spill about a cup of gear oil on the driver side floorboard...

Had to throw my T-shirt away..

Sorry I missed your call bud was on the baseball field with the youngens but sound like you did just fine.

So true I usually throw away the shirts I'm wearing when working in that stuff. I raid my brothers goodwill bags occasionally for wrenching shirts. You making the Expo this weekend and how's the shock parts and cable work out?

He's talking about a 95 so I'd imagine that it could easily be done. Think a total of 14 bolts or so what I can tell (14 may be for font and rear...)

well from what i remember on the subject is that there was a part time kit for the early fj80 series trucks.

you could partime the 4wd and add locking/unlocking hubs.

this kit was not offered for the 93(which is what i had) up fzj80 series trucks.

viscious coupling acts like a center differential. so if one side spins freely that is where all the power will go.

like a normal diff power goes to where the least resistance is.

read 4.3 on this 80 series article.

there is a kit slee offers but i think you must remove the viscious coupler.

there is no real gain in disonnecting the awd system.

i miss my 80 series and it's driving charateristics with the extra horsepower and the awd system.

it was quite an awesome vehicle on road.

for how large it was.

offroad even with the swaybars connected this truck's stock suspension will out travel any modified toyota leafsprung vehicle.

yes even with parabolics or old man emu.

your truck larry and mike are the easily the badest trail monsters in the club.

especially with the suspension kits you guy's have on them.

hell iam excited for yall to take them on the trails.

toyota did there homework with these vehicles.

if you have never experienced an 80 series offroad, one of the best toyota's in those situations handsdown.

i have a hard time looking at the other LC's except with nostalgia.

cadillac of the trails doesn't even describe it's ability to tame a trail.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I never thought about the VC, even w/ reading and didn't consider the truck under power preferentially sending power away from the connected wheels.

How bout just a post in 80 Tech I guess?

I got the shocks and throttle working. I need to adjust the throttle a little more to get the secondaries to fully open, but at least it's safe now. I'd like to make it to the expo, but I have a feeling the job I'm waiting on will be "going any minute" so I wouldn't be able to make it to Hammond.

to boot my 1993 had 289,000 miles.

no extra wear problems.

i never even had to rebuild the front end.

Good info thanks Dan, I really like the battle tank and with every passing week I'm improving on it. Added the CDL switch and Pin 7 mod this week. Its nice having access to the lockers and CDL in Hi now. If I have time today I'll shed the rear sway bar from research its safer to keep the front on as you don't gain as much taking it off as in the rear. Will order the metal tech 1.5 spacers and swap out the Slee blues and if that don't put it where I want it I'll order new springs.

yeah as you know even with my 60 series i was not a fan of the stinkbug look.

You can jump the low pressure switch real quick to test . If the A/C comes on then the system is working correctly and it is low on freon.




Or it's time to roll the windows down and enjoy Louisiana summer time A/C.

yeah and if you have a leak this will almost positively get the rest of the freon out of the system!

Wow is all I can say about the 80's. The boy summed our weekend in the 80 below two thumbs way up. Comfortable on the 1 1/2 hr commute, decent gas mpg setting cruising at 60, tuff as nails on the trail. I was optimistic about the electric lockers but where they are tuff to operate on the road they perform totally different on the trail. With everything locked down and with the CDL and pin 7 mods done this week the options it gave me always allowed me to be where I wanted to be even with the gumed up AT tires. I do need more lift pounded at stump in a deep mud hole and bent the lower ARB, took a half cut tree in the door on what is now the second coat of Durabak put some slight dents but never so much as scrated the Durabak. Will mostly cover up with the 3rd and 4th coat of Durabak. Overall I can't see how I lived without one. Its just an awesome rig and will continue to improve on it. My first automatic 4WD and wow I wasn't exausted after driving it. The power steering got the biggest workout navigating short wheelbase trails.

When I had my 80 series I had the same question. I called my buddy Marve at Specter Offroad and he said it doesn't hurt the truck but it doesn't help the mpg either. We just need our country to get off their ass and get their s**t together so we are not paying so much for gas or diesel. Totally insane. I could go on and on for hours.

i think i have a front wheel bearing out in the front of my taco. makes a humming sound and goes away when i turn left. anyone have experience with wheel bearing/ know how they work?

I changed a set on my little brothers truck, It was a nice simple 2wd and I screwed that up pretty well. Over tightned the spindle nut and burnt them up quickly.

Never had the opertunity to tear into a 4wd front end (yet) and see just how they are made

Never worked on a Taco that new but my 95 had pressed sealed bearings I'm pretty sure but I never had any issues. Would be a easy job it doesn't take much to take the spindle off its getting access to a press with all the goodies to get the old ones out. Check out the tech section and do a search you might turn something up. This forum is a great tool.

Thats cheap brother take it and run the bearing alone is probably more than that. Labor rate is something like $65 - 70 dollars now.
