Bluegrass guys,
Wow looks like you had some good fun. I'll have to get down to Slade again before year end. It's good to see Josh didn't get the 80 stuck like LBL

Trail Names
The beginning pics are of a trail called Nature Trail. This connects to White Arch Trail at the top of the hill. We crossed the arch, had lunch out on the point (don't know what that was called) then went down Goat Hill and worked our way to an obstacle called Slider. (Slider: This is the set of pic with the Lexus, Mustard FJ40 and Jeep.) The next pics show the green FJ attempting an obstacle called Last Chance. From there we followed a trail now called Little Sluice down the hill to the creek where we exited. For those that know the area the rock garden trail Widow Maker was the road to the left when we got to the creek and turned right.
Several members have done Carb Hill in the past but not this trip. The trail leading up to it is now very rough and just about requires lockers front and rear.
Josh with the FJ80 and Rick in the Lexus went everywhere with ease. I was very impressed with both trucks. It was just weird seeing the 'buses' lumbering down the trails. We all cringed whenever one of them made any contact with mother earth! Even more impressive was the stock open diff'ed Mustard FJ40 piloted by Jason, we only had to assist him once. One thing everyone had going for them: The trails were mostly bone dry so traction was excellent. Only coming down Little Sluice did we run through some mud holes.

I've got the OME J springs with 20 mm of trim packers at each corner, and L shocks. I'm running the Slee castor plates with it also. It's a great setup.

Damnation Alley
I'd love to try Damnation Alley, but don't know where it is! I'm sure there are trails down there that we haven't tried because we don't know where they are.
When I met Rice on the Rocks and the Hoosier Cruisers this summer, Luke led us on a ride for the vehicles that only had rear lockers. He left the campground and drove right by the nature trail, taking pavement all the way. You're right about that trail, that's always a highlight of our trip and it's getting rougher all the time. Maybe Luke doesn't know about it and I had no way of calling him. If the Hoosier guys come back down, we'll hit it for sure!
Let us know if you ever get down this way, you can be our trail guide!

Thom,
I hope to be there in Oct. - maybe mid October... not sure if I can wheel this time cause it is a family B-day party but we'll see...
Luke used our "wagon ride" trail.. suitable for wagons etc.. I spoke with him and he said you all had a great time but then again, it is hard not to have fun in Slade..even if your in a Sami like Luke!
I'll check your club corner for trailride postings and try to let you know if I can make it. I can also offer GPS coordinates.. basically, if you go down goat hill, left at the first main creek crossing with the short climbs, etc. (this is going towards Carb hill) the trail winds in and out of the creek, you come to the fork in the trail where you go right to begin the ascent to Carb hill, but you go left and into the creek (last time I was there, the UFS had cleared this section 30 yds wide) continue in the creek, you come to a 3-way consisting of a narrow creek trail to the left, 10 yards up a small hill climb on the left, or straight into growingly large boulders and eventually up to the Widow maker (10ft. water fall) and passed that, large boulders through damnation alley. Here are some pics of the last time I was there....
in the Gazeteer, the trail is along the Sand Lick Fork...

Widowmaker is Damnation Alley. ROTR Renamed it wen the trail was just opened years ago. We hated the name since there are so many widowmakers across the country, not to mention nobody died on our trip. The first obsticle is called Grandmas Hatbox. It was alot worse than it is now. Rains are filling silt in where people have stacked rocks.
