Offroad newbie in Wichita - how to get started?
I'm probably putting too much thought into this, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. I'm at the point with my FJ80 baseline that I'd like to try my hand with some light off roading. It's a stock truck desmogged with 33" BFG AT tires. I don't want to get too crazy, but I'd like to get off of the pavement. What's a good way to get started? Any good locations around Wichita for light off roading?

We are having a club wheeling event this weekend at Tuttle Creek OHV Park, north of Manhattan, KS. Come join us. We can show you a few tricks and there will probably be other 80's there also. There is a variety of terrain that will please any level of vehicle and driver. Check out the thread for the Daylight Savings Run. Eric

If all goes well at work I might be heading north Friday evening or early Saturday AM. Depending on your schedule we could convoy. I have a newer 80 and it's as slow as 3FE powered 80 with all the junk on it.

Thanks guys. I'd love to do the Tuttle Creek thing but I have family obligations this weekend (kid activities).

Damn you're good! Yup, I'm a project engineer at Hawker-Beechcraft. My life is pretty much Office Space or Dilbert, take your pick.

There's not much to wheel in Wichita unless you head to the salvage yard . Don Pennington is in the Wichita 4x4 club also and they usually do a pumpkin run around Butler and Greenwood counties (in the Flint Hills). It's mostly running dirt roads, which aren't much more then goat paths and 4wd is usually required...... Looks like it's scheduled for the Oct. 25th. ( Wichita 4x4 Club Schedule of Events ) IBCRUSN can get you in touch with Don if you're interested in taggin' along.

I am in Wichita as well - I also have prior obligations for this weekend - and have not had much luck with finding a place wheel near here. Seems like life in general conspires against my ability to make it to any of the TAC events!

And with all the rain we've been getting, the goat paths could become very interesting. Especially if you're the last one in line.

My wife Golden and I are hostin an event at Tuttle Nov. 7th with the Wichita 4x4 Club. We were gonna camp out Sat. nite, unless it's colder than a cast iron camode in the Klondike...
Wichita 4x4 Club meets the 3rd Tues. of the month at Off Road Motors Sports at 7:30 pm. We try an go wheelin at least once a month.
This month we hosted the SWFWDA fall quarterly the 3rd thru 5th. I got to use my undrhood welder. Golden an I had an outin at Little Sahara the weekend of the 15th. Derrick an I tore our sft tops, And the Off Road truck show was this past sat. Our Son Derrick drove his fj40 over the cars, I've created a monster! And the Pumkin run on sun. Got the fj60 real dirty, but heck it ain't been warshd in 5+ years...
