| Tell her to not drive it until someone checks the rad fluid, oil etc. Overheating that engine is a bad thing.
I hope it all turns out well. Make sure you call the importer to have them look after it as well.

| once in Edmonton have it checked for a coolant compression test both cold and hot but this doesn't nessarily tell you if the head is cracked or not.
i have worked on many prados in the last 2 years so if you want her to bring it to Calgary i will be happy to do a check for her.
did you install a pyro guage before heading out? was she informed on how to drive these units? one test is to bring it up to operating temps then shut it down for about 10 minutes then fire it up again, if there is white or light grey smoke then there is a cracked head.
there is no one that i know of that is experienced with these engines in Edmonton. In Calgary there is myself and ProActive.
cheers

| I've left a phone message with a diesel mechanic that I know who has worked on the 2L's and 2LT-II's. If he calls me back I'll give you a shout.

Canadam (Adam) is a respected Cruiserhead so I'm sure he's going to help out with this breakdown. |

| If you're headed east and can make it to Saskatoon you might want to try Ens Industrial (part of Ens Toyota) for help. They are probably one of very few Toyota dealerships in North America that has expertise with imported Japanese diesels. |

| Sorry, the mechanic I know didn't get back to me yet. I'm not surprised as he is very difficult to get a hold of and doesn't have much time.
Where is the unit now?

| Wes, are you trying to get ahold of Nick from the ToyotaDiesel board? He's one fellow I thought of in Edmonton who knows these engines inside and out...
Was this Canadam's personal truck? He's been driving it for a while, so it's not like it's fresh off the boat. Still, going through the mountains in of these units can really push the EGTs through the roof...plus, maybe a clutch fan that's not up to snuff...plus the inaccurate temp gauge...combined with an inexperienced driver...not a good combo.

| Hi Robin,
Yes it's Nick I'm trying to get hold of. He's tough to get hold of though. He could deal with this blindfolded, but getting hold of him and getting some of his time is the trick. :( He did some work for me last week on my Surf and is putting a 2LT-II into my girlfriend's Hilux pickup quite soon.

| Champjack,
If Wes can't get ahold of Nick, you may want to take Wayne up on his offer. I doubt Toyota's going to be able to do much for you, sad to say, though they can supply a new cylinder head for a decent price (I think mine was around $850). All the other parts you'd need can be had from 4 Wheel Auto in Edmonton - this includes head gasket, and other gaskets and parts for the repair.
The other option is to ship the truck to your home, and do the repair yourself. Not sure how mechanically inclined you are, but it's an option.

| this was canadam's truck...i specifically asked him about overheating issues AND i asked him to throughly familiarize bev with what she needed to be on top of and how to drive this vehicle through the mountains...this is very upsetting.
toyota has told her they can't deal with it...they have directed her to 4 wheel in edmonton....where she ended up from there i am still trying to determine. too many guys answering phones at 4wheel. i am waiting to hear some word from her via my two brothers champjack (jack) and hawke (gerry). |
