JDM Park brake handle

Can anyone explain why almost every park brake handle I've seen on JDM vehicles is always so tortured looking even when the rest of the car is well maintained. Do our Japanese friends sit in their cars and pick away at it? WTH?

Two big reason:

Japanese are taught to park and leave vehicles in neutral. The parking brake is used every time. So it gets a lot more wear than over there when some people never use them at all.

In a RHD vehicle the parking brake is applied with the left hand, most people here over about 25 are married, most married people have a ring on the left hand. Rings hack up handles fast.

That was my thoughts as well. The other theory I was going with was they all eat chicken as they drive, and leave the dogs in the vehicles to lick and chew the park brake handles, shifting levers, and steering wheels.

funny this was asked, so true, i just thought the original piece broke of and was replaced with a really well used one. but the one i've seen looks like it's been sun damaged, just odd...the rest of teh interior was mint. you'd think it'd reflect the same use as the pedals and steering wheel...
