Lost key on JDM HDJ81 Land Cruiser

Hiya all,

I lost my only key to an HDJ81 Land Cruiser, and am wondering what to do after I heard from Toyota Japan, that they will not cut a key for a vehicle outside of the country. I have not tried Toyota Canada yet, but figured that since they are usually not too JDM friendly, and their computers do not recognize JDM stuff, that it would be pointless. I do not have the number on the key, just the VIN on the vehicle.

Any suggestions? I guess I could replace the ignition, but am unsure if it is the same as CDM part, or if I would need to get the part from Japan.

Any bright ideas would be appreciated fellow cruiserheads! Thanks!

Try a Toyota dealership. I think the Surrey dealership has been helpful to JDM owners in the past. I don't suppose you have the key code in your documentation somewhere? If so, any good locksmith can cut you a new key from this code for around $30-$50.

The early US 80 series use a different key than the early JDM 80s.

The early JDM 80s use the same key as the LX450s; aftermarket replacement partno by ILCO is LXP90-P

I'm not certain if they can help or not, but ATEB is VERY experienced with the HDJ81 and they may be able to help you.

Go to Lexus, don't waste your time with Toyota. They will likely have a smith they will recommend to you. I had go to Edmonton Canada Data Safe Fireproof Data Safe Storage Fireproof Data Safe Data Safe Storage (Edmonton)as they were the only ones in the area who can cut a key that style (special machine required). I had my key and they made copies for me. I don't know what they would do for rig with no key. Best of luck.
