Yes it will surely be interesting, one way or the other though people want Land Cruisers and the parts, I don't think the desire for these items will change at least that is my perspective as a parts seller from here in Japan. Been doing it for 5 years on the side.

hmm, wonder what a 1997 multivalve 80 series with lockers will go for in 2012.....

well, i'm on my 2nd diesel jdm vehicle, and i still love everything about it. i plan on keeping my rig for a long time and it will be the family mule for all sorts of trips, heck, i'd like my kid to hop on it 16 years from now and learn to drive on it...hmmm 16 years...that's year 2024 and my 91 would be 33 years old...hmm, man that's like keeping a 1975 40 series (correct?) now...! and if i do 25K/year, that's 400K kms by then, still halfway to a million K's (maybe on it's 2nd beb job, a turbo rebuild, maybe i'tll eventually get an wvo kit, who knows...etc..)...i wonder where my rig will be by then and what shape it'll be in...?

i am ceratainly attached to this truck and will do my best to keep it goin, (i'm actually late on teh rustproofing tho! doh!)...but everything has an end, my truck may be sold to get another LC down the road, maybe it won't even see 1/2 Million k's...i mean how many JDM owner out there have hit close to that now? we'll find out in a few years i guess on this forum. i mean, to hit that kind of mileage, that's 15-20 years of averaging 25K a year, depending on what you started with. it'd be nice to do a long term non scienticfic stats on who keeps what for how long and the kind of mileage their rigs have accumulated (jdm specific).

i certainly value my old rig for it's history, reliablility, offroadability...and i could never compare it in price for a slightly used rav 4, or cheaper but newer gas 4 runner or minivan.... i have no regrets and can only hope that this LC gives me my money's worth in the long run (this is key to buying an LC, practicality for the long run)... but value exists in the mind. maybe i'll be okay if it depreciated 10g's in 5 years...that's like 170 bucks/month in car payments..i can live with that.

lol, this is the most math i'll do in a year! cheers! end of my 2 cents....(did i even make a point?! ) guess we'll see what the world economy has in store for all of us!

I know for a fact that a LOT of japanese vehicles were going to Russia; delicas, land cruisers, you name it they were buying them. Now the Russian economy (and the rest of the world's for that matter) is in the crapper I suspect it will bring the auction prices down considerably. The yen is up a bit, but on the plus side cheap diesel will bring shipping down.

That is my thought aswell. I bought my truck because of the options. It's been a great truck and my wife says that selling it, is not an option.
I also agree with the excellent points Aaron made. My JDM LC is probably the last of a long line of 4x4 trucks I've owned. RHD isn't for everyone. The most common asshat question I get is "what are you going to do when they ban those things". Most sheeple want to conform and will sell a RHD rather than be the brunt of ridicule. I'll never sell mine and intend to pass it on to the kids when I'm too old to drive. I've found that a small amount [10%] of veg-oil or biodiesel makes my 20 year old diesel as emissions clean as a new car.

good points, people will always need parts, especially when they are not buying something "new" - I like parts, see my signature.

yes, the price of buying at auction has come down for the lower grade units. the high end units are still fetching top dollar
add to this the drop in exchange, at one time we were buying the Yen at 120, not it is right around the 85 which drives the cost of purchase up 30%. if the high end units are not dropping in price then a $15K truck is now $20K to purchase where as 3 years ago the same $15K truck was $12K to purchase.

the market is FLOODED with shit trucks, with trucks the Quebec dealers are unloading due to the RHD registration ban, with trucks where the "cool" factor is gone. RHD are not moving so the prices are dropping. when there is no money to be made then the dealers stop buying, the good dealers stop shopping and the shit trucks still get bought and brought in to sit in the driveways of the curbers that thought they could make a quick buck.

the price will go down further for the shit trucks but the highend trucks are actually going up. it comes down to what are you looking for? a bush beater can be had cheap, a unit you want to leave to your kid will still cost a fortune to buy.

this is just the way it is.

Russia has now called a strong restriction on JDM imports so the biggest market for JDMs has basicly closed it's doors and the auction prices for poorer grade units has dropped. a delica that you would have to pay $4500 for last year is now $1500.

i bought vehicles that should they not sell i am happy to drive. there are a lot of dealers that bought just to sell, these will take a beating.

add to all this the RHD ban scare, the insurance problems, ICBC and TC fraudulant accident stats and most people are just not willing to take the chance.

simple as that.
