| Pesky Heater Hose (PHH) Kits - Blue Silicone and Gates Green Stripe Ok... succumbing to the request of those who don't want a permanent solution the PHH problem, I broke down and sourced 25ft of Gates Green Stripe so there will be an economical solution to the PHH problem that plagues us all, yet will hold up a lot better than the generic crap off the shelf. I don't have it up on the site yet, but there will be a Gates Green Stripe kit with the Constant Torque Clamps (which I still would recommend using) ... although I will be offering a kit with sleeved clamps for a bit less. So for this kit, as pictured below the silicone kit, it will be $20 shipped... and for the sleeved version, $15 shipped. Check out the site this weekend for more info... but here are the specs between the two kits: Silicone - as seen on www.1fzfephh.com: 365F operating temperature and 400 psi burst strength (I miscalculated the spec on the site converting bar to psi.) Gates Green Stripe: 275F operating temperature and 95 psi burst strength.
BTW, NAPA Gold stripe is NOT Gates Green Stripe rebadged. It is rated to 212F (yikes) and only 60 psi working pressure... almost as bad as the generic stuff off the shelf.
You know about the Constant Torque clamps... worth the added expense...
The sleeved clamps aren't quite as good, but they are stainless and won't cut or shear into the hose like generic brands. They also have the pattented quadra lock system to reduce loosening up.
Also... Some people have requested a kit for the upper heater hoses on the center firewall... while I even think Silicone for this would be overkill since it is easy to inspect and replace, I will be offering a Gates Green Stripe Upper Heater Hoses (UHHs?) kit for that if anybody wants it.
The price for the 100mm and 50mm piece of hoses plus 4 sleeved clamps is going to be $25 shipped.
I don't know about everyone else, but the clerks around here know absolutely nothing about heater hose. The last guy I checked with at a very well known autoparts chain tried to sell me this white stripe crap saying that it was Gates Green Stripe, only with a white stripe. I asked to see the operating temp and the burst strength and he looked at me like I was an Alien...
I think we also might have a PHH DVD install "Take 2" in the works here in Houston... Stay tuned. www.1fzfephh.com

| Yes... overkill! Like Amsoil, like Kevlar lined tires, like a 350 bhp Normally aspirated 4.65L 1FZ-FE, Like a Safari Turbo 1FZFE at 130+MPH, like rhino lining your fenders, like... like... well you get the idea. We are all mad. But there is no denying these vehicles are awesome and deserve some cheap protection from the pHH Plague!

| Your head gasket might blow before that little blue hose. |

| Have you actually attempted an in-frame installation utilizing the "green-stripe" hose?
I ask only because my understanding is that in-frame installations utilizing this type of hose are challenging at best. This hose seems to be very stiff and as a result much more difficult to work with in the confines of an in-frame replacement. I could certainly be mis-informed but please do correct me if that is the case.

It is more plyable than the silicone - which is about as stiff as I would want to try.
I would say it is slightly stiffer than the generic black or orange heater hose you find in parts stores.
Gates does make a version of Green Stripe hose that has a steel mesh layer that isn't intended to be used as heater hose - I think it's a hydraulic hose.

| I installed the Green Stripe. It is significantly stiffer than the Toyota or run of the mill parts store heater hose. It is about 50% thicker than stock hose. I pulled the metal tube prior to install. Don't think I would try installing it any other way.
Given the durability of the Green Stripe hose and the fact that it bonds to the metal tubing lined constant torque clamps are not necessary. |

| Constant Torque Clamps are worlds beyond standard clamps in quality. Gates doesn't seem to adhere any more or less than regular heater hose, so if you want to be 100% sure of a seal for a very long time, I would use the Constant Torque Clamps. At the very least it will save you from having to re-tighten regular clamps a while down the road when you notice the red crusties starting to form.
I do offer a lined stainless steel clamp as well, but if anyone has done a PHH job before, with the time involved, why not spend a little extra for the piece of mind?

| Finally... Firewall Heater Hose Kits! Decided to do Silicone also. Pricey, but a lot easier if you do regular radiator flushes... doesn't bond to the metal tubes.
