There are a few features on the IH8MUD.com forum that allow you to help filter content.

If you check your User CP > Edit Options you'll find that you can selectively turn on and off Signatures, Avatars, and Attachment Images. Images are by far the largest bandwidth hogs on a webpage, and turning these off when using dialup will make a significant difference. Attachments will still be available, but you must click a link for them to be seen.

(FYI, the forum banner and rotating ad banners are optimized for load speed, and cannot be switched off in the User CP)
