Forum is Slow
The forum has been pretty slow for me for the last month or two, but really slow recently. For instance 10-15 seconds for the 80 series forum page to load, same for threads, or longer, even when there are no pictures. I am running Firefox 3.5.3 (w/adblock) on a Vista computer, with a cable broadband connection. I ran a speed test on speedtest.net just after the slow load of the 80 series forum, my stats are 21ms ping, 14.37mb/s download, 8.39mb/s upload. Is this a problem with 'mud? Or do I have a problem w/my computer? I have used 'mud on other computers and it seems slow, but didn't time anything or check connection speed, so not 100% sure.

same for me... painfully slow.
thought it was just my home at first, but it is the same on my laptop in various areas and on my work computer, which is pretty damn fast.
just sayin...

After waiting for this very page to load for about 20 seconds, I timed the rest of the load on my watch, it was a full 2 minutes (plus that ~20 seconds before I started timing). Slow enough that, if it is the forum, and not me, I will be much more limited in my mud time. It's just too frustrating.

this page took me 22.429 seconds to load....and I see ALL the ad banners...
however, I DO know why things have been slow since yesterday early morning...
at 4am CDT I started an rsync process with bqbackup.com - basically, the ENTIRE server is getting backed up from it's current location in Reno to storage facility in Manhattan. With the recent issues regarding lost db and image files, and after looking at a dozen possible options, I decided this was a simple and affordable method of backing up everything.
At present, there is roughly 78GB of data on the server...this includes over 10,000 gallery images and about 17GB of Attachments within the forum. Presently, in the last 27ish hours, 8GB of data has been backed up.
Obviously, this initial backup is going to take the better part of a week to complete. However, once this initial backup is complete, the rsync process will then only backup the new or changed files each night and will perform much quicker.
We are looking at additional options as well...while there are backup drives installed in the current servers, there are significant performance gains possible by offloading those backups to a new dedicated server and then performing the rsync from that location.

just did a reboot to reset the server processes....page load at 8.131
will see about 'limiting' the IO demands of the rsync process later today to try and control the site issues....however, at some point, the backup 'has' to run...

Not sure if it means anything, but upon accessing mud initially, usually in the am, it's pretty fast. But as I access it during the day, it seems to take longer each time until it's s l o w. Been noticing it this past few weeks. Using Safari 2.04 on 10.4.7 if that's any difference.

backup is running, believe I found the issue....apparently, the CRON job was running two instances and causing a conflict...the restart this morning dropped to one running process and 'should' fix the issue
will be monitoring throughout the day...thanks for your patience

Noticed this lately too. A few times (including just now) it timed out trying to load.
Firefox and Safari w/ same result.
So it took several minutes to actually get this page to load.
It has been like this for the past several weeks though I thought it was my computer.
Happens on all my computers though.
most of the time it's normal or i'll refresh and it pops up.

For whatever reason, maybe your recent "tweaks", MUD for me is faster loading/refreshing now than previous.

It was running extremely slow for me. Running Macbook Pro with Safari Version 4.0.3 (5531.9).
Kept getting a "cannot find server", now its back to normal. My Iphone is loading normal now as well. Edge and 3G.
