I (think) you need to make sure you have the images subdomain explicitly set and that you rewrite urls to bunk subdomains to point to the www subdomain. Else you won't load images on the hompage, etc. Edit: looks like you're getting it

I'm still not clear on why the vbSEO stuff is randomly (it is random) dropping the username in as the URL.

I have a hunch though: that copy/paste operation provides a [url=http://forum.ih8mud.com/link-to-profile.html]Username[/url] code snip for each username. It almost seems like the regexp that vbSEO uses is populating its matches array wrong, or it is looking in the matches array 1 index too high. If for example the regexp was similar to:
/[url=(.*)](.*)[\/url]/i

Now, obviously I can't see the vbSEO code and I don't know how it operates, but it almost seems like something like this.

So there is a lead for you, briansol.

Yo woody;
You need to clarify with the vbSEO dude that keeps telling you he sees nothing wrong: this is not a rewrite rule problem. Obviously when people are asking for this page and others apache is fetching the right URL (or else everything would be bunk and nobody could view user profiles, etc)

The problem has to do with whatever hack vbSEO applies so that urls are assigned a title when the user submits their post. It's almost certainly something in the PHP code or something like too many concurrent socket connections in PHP.

Now that's interesting. The URLs wrapped in noparse tags in the code block also got replaced even though I'm absolutely 100% positive the text I pasted into them was correct.

This sure looks to be some weird vbSEO bug.

Yo woody,
Would you mind asking rykoala to ssh into the server and run a few commands?

Specifically:
nslookup Atticus
nslookup Atticus.ih8mud.com

Also, have him look at the /etc/hosts configuration and see if there is anything that causes the server to point unresolved hosts somewhere specific.

I suspect he will not find anything, but it's worth a shot.

I still feel strongly that this is a vbSEO coding bug at some level; the only way that my input would get parsed like that (even inside the noparse tags) would be if PHP was modifying it somehow. Rewrite rules have absolutely nothing to do with that.
