They are interesting creatures.. amost human-like facial features. Have you actually seen one jump 10 feet out of the water?? .. I can't imagine how a 700 lbs. bony-ass Sunfish that floats through the water most of its life, can muster enough speed to jump 10 feet out of the water---especially without a tailfin.

I don't know if I believe that BBC story.

I've read other accounts of them jumping. Really, any fish can jump, it's just that some do, some don't.

Some of those pics are from a large Tarpon tournament north of here at Boca Grande Pass. They catch and release 150-200 lbs tarpon all day in the spring. Try doing that on 20lbs braided line

Yes they do. I have seen them jump many times personally. Donj't ask me how they do it.

I have actually hooked one on a fly. I was fishing under a kelp patty for yellows when it cruised up so I presented the fly. Fought like a 45" supper swamper.
