Jman....

Fly fishing is easy, I think casting is the most difficult part, but no more difficult than learning how to ride a push bike, and tying basic flies is very simple....

The thing with fly fishing is it is the easiest and most fun way catch to game fish! After you have done fly fishing you will think that casting is spinner or spoon is like casting an old truck bumper . But all types of fishing is good, I still spin cast for fish from time to time.

There are a lot of myths out there about fly fishing, most of which stem from folk thinking they are superior because they fly fish "snob value".

Has anyone fish for "taimen" in Mongolia?

Is the "taimen" ultimate fish to fish for? Anyone ?????

Not that great of a photo as I was sitting in a float tube trying to get a picture of a flopping around largemouth.
As Robert Earl Keene sang,

"..I saw a ripple, I heard a splash
Lord have mercy it's a 5 lb. bass."

Ok, maybe 4 lb.

Fished all weekend. SKUNKED.
My bud however got these 2 bass on 1 Rapala.
Both hooked in the mouth. I thought he had a mutant bass when the heads
popped out of the water.

1.5 was my guess as well, but I thought I'd be polite and not say anything...

The big silver ones are carp, and the smaller ones are mudfish (bowfin). Taken with a bow.

I have a couple of friends who have been fly fishing for them. Synopsis, If you have the dough ($$$) then why not. Otherwise there are better fish on the fly. One of my friends was teh first american into the USSR to fish for them. Flew in in military helocopters and set up tents. First day there the guide shot moose so they would have meat for the trip. They hooked a couple of fish on skating mouse patterns. The fight was anti climatic. May have been time of year, I don't know.

Go get 'em.

Made it down to Corpus Christi this weekend. First time I actually caught a saltwater fish so at this point size didn't matter. Fished a pier on the CC Naval Air Station with a couple Sailors.

Hooked a little catfish, a small 12" or so trout (really pretty fish), some little sunfish and a red stingray. The stingray was the hilight. Just a little dude but I was stoked and being in sandals one of the Navy guys helped me out with unhooking it without stinging myself.
