Nice catch man..

Thats a leggy bear, we see short and fat ones here... There seems to be two types of build for bears, leggy ones and fat ones... I saw a fat one last night, must of had 3-4''s of fur thickness on it... AWESOME
Yeah figured he was a two or three year old..

My dad once had his bait taken by a pelican, who then tried to go airborne. Man, that was a mess.

When I was about 10 or 11 I was fishing by myself with a bobber and worm on Half Moon Lake, in a public park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Of course people were always feeding the ducks there, so they were tame and always looking for handouts. As I fished, a duck kept coming by and pecking at my bobber. I would reel it in and move it, sometimes waiting 5 or 10 minutes for the duck to go away, but it kept coming right back. Eventually I gave up and let him peck at the bobber, thinking he would eventually realize that it wasn't food and move on. Well, he got all tangled up in the line, and hooked as well. It was quite a fight, but the line eventually broke and the duck flew away with my hook stuck in him somewhere and dangling my bobber. Stupid duck.

Did I mention the time I almost hooked a beaver while trout fishing?

OK, so due to taking care of the twins I have not been fishing for quite a while, 3 weeks. So I am digging a story up from the long past.

This happened while fishing the Swan river by my granparents place in Montana. I was making long quartering swings with a wedding band spinner, pre fly fishing days. It was my last spinner and town was quite a ways away so when I got a snag I went after it. Unfortunately, the usual summer storm blew in way faster than I expected. While I was waist deep in the water a lightning bolt struck a partially submerged tree across the river from me. Talk about a freaky feeling, like my skin was covered with a thousand black widows. All I can remember was not being able to hear anything as I ran at mach 2 back to the ranch. I go the other way when lighting starts to fly now.

That is all for now.

Switched up lakes today. Went to the bass/trout lake for first time since last
summer. Having no luck in the northern/walleye lake.
Put the old faithful Culprit Grape Shad 7.5" worm on. 4 LM within an hour.
1-2lbs range. Fun on a lightweight rig.
First pic is from island. Every year I spend my birthday on it getting lit up.
Become a tradition since I moved here.

when i go rowboat salmon fishing near our cabin, and break out the buzz bomb for mooching seals will take my lure sometimes. there is nothing quite so insane as the 20 second freightrain hit from a 200 lb seal. thing is then the line goes limp and they surface nearby and look at you. for some reason they never seem to get hooked or else they come unhooked quite easily. skin must be thick i guess.

i've also had seagulls take hoochies out of the water when bucktailing although thankfully i've never hooked one.

i'd be interested in the OK/SM thing. Got a new 5 wt flyrod for christmas I still haven't unpacked.

on the ocean on the bucktail front, the total lack of coho in our area has sharply diminished it to the point of very little anymore but in the old days we mostly used store bought hoochies with a few big flies for fun, mostly on a weight in the wake where they outfished hoochies for some reason. I still buy the licence to prawn and crab and I go mooching for spring now and then but I never got enamoured with bait fishing which is what you need for those guys. I actually sold the kicker off my boat 3 years ago because i never use it :(

Antelope Lake CA

Just got back from 6 days of FANTASTIC trout fishing at Antelope Lake. My wifes family has been making the annual pilgramige for the past 30 years. I have only been going for the past 8 but hope to continue for the rest of my life. We always go in the first part of May to catch last years hold overs before the new fish are planted.
Between the three couples we averaged 15 fish a day all 15 to 18 inches. Fishing starts at 5:00am and we were done by 8:00am. Nothing to do the rest of the day but sit around the fire and tell lies. It don't get no better!

I went trout fishing yesterday, caught 2 rainbows, 1 14 inches the other 9, and an 8 inch brookie. I went over to the Johns river in NC, counted 80 fish, in the 10 to 20 inch range just sitting on the bottom in a 10 yard section. Would'nt even look at anything I threw to them, fly or spinners. Not feeding at all. Frustrating. Maybe I should take a can of corn next time.
