My 1st gub thread (Line on a Ruger 22/45)
So, I have been wanting a pistol for a while, just to get into shooting and plinking at the range, building my comfort (never shot regularly before)
A girl I work with has wrist/forearm problems (like carpal tunnel), and is selling her very new Ruger 22/45. Only been to the range 6 times, fired a few dozen rounds. This particular gun I have looked at, and it has interested me due to its reported accuracy, ease of firing, price of ammo, and reliability. Only negative I have really heard is it is a bit complex to strip/reassemble. This was coming from a Springfield XD .40SW owner, and he field strips those and glocks with his eyes closed as he was in law enforcement. I think maybe he was just unfamiliar with it. I know it is a basic 22/45, unsure of 4" or 5.5" barrell though. Both MRSP for 290. Is 150 a reasonable price for this firearm? |

Absolutely! The 22/45 is a great gun, and is esp. good if you plan on moving up to a 1911 frame .45 for a range gun. Plus, a .22 is waaaaay easy on the wallet.

Buy it.
The Ruger .22 pistols are lifetime keepers. You can toss it into your tackle box, holster it if hiking in case a rattler wants you, beat it, never worry about it, and it'll keep on firing. Direct descendent of one of the world's classic firearms. Take the time to learn how to field strip it. That's all you'll need, and it's not all that difficult. Ruger will send you an owner's manual if you don't get one with the pistol. __________________ Specialization is for insects '77 BJ40 FST;'77 FJ40; '65 FJ40; |

I agree. Sweet weapon. It can be a PITA to reassemble, but you don't need to do it very often. Get it. You'll love it.
If you don't buy it let me know and I will. __________________ If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. '99 UZJ100 "The Iron Hippo" / '82 FJ40 "Mustard" / '73 FJ40 |

well since it is on a 45 frame the gun shoud disassemble just like the 45 would. It can't be to hard to disassemble.

Sweeet. You're gonna love it. Start with whatever's on sale and see how the gun likes it. Every weapon has a favorite ammo. I'd be interested to know if the Aquila Super Colibri's will cycle the action. They are very stealthy - no powder, just primer, very quiet, good for urban squirrel control: http://www.22ammo.com/lowv.html

Honk is right. After looking at it, and also ready more online, they put alot of the features and angles the same places as a .45, but once you get past the appearance, inside it's a different animal entirely.

nice or not, depending on your view, Ruger 22s(Semi Auto's) are cheap to buy used, there are SO SO many of them out there they just don't go up in value......to me thats a good thing, lots of cheap ones out there.
and no........besides the grip......its nothing like a 1911 interested the Aquila Super Colibri's will work the gun......cool Still loud as heck in a pistol, I fired a few out of my High Standard.......sound like a 22 LR in my model 61. oh.......I am still waiting for my 61 to get back from the smith.........seems a "few" Aquila Super Colibri's got stuck in the barel I am on a hunt for a SW 41......passed on 3 at the gubshow last week. the Colt Woodsmans is a SWEET 22......if you find a buy on one get it. Got my Sig Trailside back from Sig last week, they fixed it.....said its the only one they have seen with the slide latch break........figures it was mine. |

Ruger took a cue from High standard and built a pistol that simulates the grip of the (then) service pistol so that bullseye competitors could have/might buy a pistol which served as a practice piece. NRA 'Bullseye' competition entails one segment of three courses of fire which require the use of the current US issue sidearm. (it may be that the 1911 or 1911a1 is still allowed in that competition along with the 'suckup to NATO' Beretta 92, but I don't know that) The HS military models became the top use pistol in the .22 segment of the competion events. __________________ Specialization is for insects '77 BJ40 FST;'77 FJ40; '65 FJ40; |

I have three of them. All shoot with great accuracy.
All of mine are bull barrel target models, but they still have just enough muzzle jump make you have to acquire the front sight again when practicing, same as real .45 Disassembly is a breeze (this is not the issue). Assembly is NOT complicated either. It has one tricky step where you need to make certain that the "pawl" on the hammer engages the cup of the hammer spring. Order the tape/dvd put out by "Clark custom guns" titled (complete ruger .22 pistol disassembly/reassembly. It covers the Mark I,II. and .22/45 They are pretty much the experts on these pistols. Again, disassembly and reassembly is NOT complicated! There is ONE and only one procedure you must pay attention to. Have fun, and be safe. __________________ Flintknapper: '97 Land Cruiser, Moonglow Pearl Chocolate Lab (Kota), I miss you. ΜOΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ (come and take them) |
