Getting rid of squirrels

Squirrels keep gnawing on some of the facia board on my house and getting into the attic. I keep patching the holes with flashing, but now they're in again. I can't set traps in my attic because I don't have any attic access. How do you get these damn things out and keep them out?

nail heavy wire mesh inside the attic, closing off the entrance area or put your cat up there.

Squirrels are raging alcoholics...it's a little known fact. Leave some MD 20/20 laying around.

you're going to shoot a moving squirl with a hand gun? you must be quite the marksman, i lucky to take one out with a shot gun.

When i was young we actually had squirrels munch a hole through the screen over the kitchen window and come inside the house when we were gone. One day we came home and they were in the house and had trashed the kitchen. Cereal boxes, pasta boxs, you name it had been torn open and all in the kitchen. My father bought me my first gun the next day (.22 rifle). Took me out and taught me how to shoot. Then with safety my most important concern, gave me free range to shoot the squirrels in our yard. Man was that fun.

He sits in the trees outside the window eating ponderosa pine cones about 25-20 yards away. I think with the laser sight I have a good chance.

Oh, and it is a pellet gun.

sounds like a laid back squirl. the ones around here take off like a bolt of lightning if you make the slightest move. There are a bunch of wondering pet cats in the area, all the squirls are on high alert.

I agree with IDave. Shoot them.

We used to eat them all the time growning up. They were wild squirls of course.

my buddy killed off the squirrel population in his back yard with his 10-22 sitting on the throne. was and awsome setup...no more squirrels now though and the dam neighbors built a house next door finaly so they have to be a bit more low key with the shootin. (shot a .544 double barrel back their once...dam was that loud)

A .22 rifle with CB rounds is damn near impossible to hear. Just as loud as a pellet gun.

I can loan you my .20 cal pellet gun
We used to have a problem with blue jays in our small home orchard when I was a kid. Ground squirrels ran rampant for a while too...

My dad gave me free rein to take care of the problem.

A laser sight on a pellet gun would make it much easier to resolve the prolbem...

I'm saving the side by side 12 gauge for tom turkey. Somehow shooting it out through my living room window just doesn't seem right.

Hire skyshark186 (I know, they're not squirrels. They're ring-tailed Texas gophers)

A little cruel (and hillbilly) but it works...Cut the top off of a plastic barrell, place it next to a tree, and fill it half full of water. Squirrel will go in to wet his whistle but won't come out.

Run a dowel through a pop can snd put a few nuts an the can and place it on top of the barrel, when the squirl or chipmunk goes to get the nut the can turns on the dowl and he goes swimmin.

I got a question.

That gun has a laser sighting on it, right?

OK, it also has a "Danger: Infared laser radiation... do not point at eyes..." sticker on it?

WTF? If you're pointing that thing at someone's eyes I'd think the laser damaging their vision should be the least of their concerns...

"OK, OK! Keep your wallet, but just don't point that fucking laser at my eyes! You could damage someone's vision with that, you scumbag!"

Wouldn't that be enough to make it illegal in Kommifornia?

It's winter--throw some poison up there through the holes--they'll die and dessicate before summertime, no smell.

But shooting is much more fun.

I'd love to shoot the things, but I live in way too urban of an area to get away with that. Even if they died and didn't smell too much, I'm affraid the squirrel juices would leak through my ceiling. That the main reason I haven't sealed them in there to starve. F'n things are even crawling in the walls today.

Since we are on the topic of squirrels, i was talking to my roommate the other day about how i have noticed we don't have a single squirrel in the woods surrounding our house any more. We used to have tons and tons of squirrels. We have about 8 acres of hardwood forest behind our house, and i swear, this past summer and now i have not seen one single squirrel. I wonder where they could have all gone? I haven't shot a single one in over 3 years.
