Gubs, of course! (H&K content)
Just had to lay it down and pick up an H&K 91/G3 clone today. After Landpimp got me all hopped up on the H&K 94, I was left with no choice--no choice, I tell you!
I've been watching the market for a while and have been convinced that the best 91 clones out there are currently being put out by JLD Enterprises under the name PTR-91 (Precision Target Rifle). They have several models--all 922-compliant and many with flash hiders and other doodads, like heavy target barrels and upgraded rear drums that have peep diopters for 100/200/300/400 meters. All in all, they are a very nice package and very nicely priced--especially when compared to a genuine H&K. There are other clones out there (CETME and others), however, they don't seem to have the quality of the JLD weapons. Well, I sprung for a full-length PTR-91 F battle rifle and also was able to find one of the original wide "beavertail" front handguards. These are getting to be rarer than hen's teeth lately, and I much prefer them to the more modern slim ventilated handguard. Anyway, I'm psyched and can't wait to hit the range once it arrives. __________________ Sparkplugs are Irrelevant. 1976 HJ-45; 1984 BJ-42; 1988 BJ-73; & 1993 KZJ-70 Quote:

gub laws...what are they? the only two i know are: the right to bear arms and everybody shall have atleast one gub per household. guess they figure in komifornia that the year long right to bare your arms, over rides your right to bear arms. __________________ it's only metal, we can out think it. 77-fj40 20th anniversary edition 87-fj60 216K mile DDer 93-fzj80 mall crawler toyota material distribution center. your source for Factory Service Manuals. they're alot cheaper than you think. 1-800-622-2033 Last edited by brian; 11-20-05 at 06:21 PM. |

John, go to www.gunbroker.com and search "G3", and you'll find some occasional offerings of single pieces. I bought a used beavertail forend for something like $35.00 (I've seen them go for over $100.00). The one I bought is OD green; however, I'll paint it to match the rest of the furniture. If I find an original black forend, I'm gonna snap it up. With my large hands, the slim forends just don't feel right and they don't insulate as well either. As far as the PTR goes, you'll pay more for the kurz model, but I almost went that way myself. Try www.atlanticfirearms.com and/or www.jldenter.com and you'll find something you like.
John, if you do go for the shorter model, you'll have a LOT more trouble finding the correct beavertail forend. __________________ Sparkplugs are Irrelevant. 1976 HJ-45; 1984 BJ-42; 1988 BJ-73; & 1993 KZJ-70 Quote:

Sweet.
I'll need to get me a real battle rifle someday. Can't decide between a G3/clone or an M14 type. Think I'll play with my HK94 for a while to get a feel for it, then play with a SOCOM16, which I know I want anyway... __________________ If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. I already got one of those, so I guess I'm done! Yes, the M1 in my safe is an ace in the hole if necessary. Got some ammo ready for it if need be... I want something a little more modern, though. Probably get a SOCOM 16 and eventually something like a G3 variant or FN/FAL variant.... __________________ If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. CDan, you'll get no arguments from me about the beauty and utility of the Garand family of weapons. I like the H&K design too, as well as the FN/FAL. This is not a zero-sum game though. Buying one gub doesn't not denigrate or invalidate the worthiness of others.
I'd love to have a 91, 93, and 94 all side-by-side for the choosing--depending on the situation presented. I'm not big on the M-16/AR-15 and it's nice to have a 9mm, a .223, and a .308 all possessing the same architecture and basic design. It lends itself to readily switching from one to the other with less difficulty. It's a foregone conclusion that EVERY gubnut needs a Garand. Yooper, I did take a look at the HK specialist website, and noted that they want $150.00 for a black wide forend for a 91. That's a bit steep. __________________ Sparkplugs are Irrelevant. 1976 HJ-45; 1984 BJ-42; 1988 BJ-73; & 1993 KZJ-70 Quote:

Fire both on full auto and I get a feeling youll change your mind.
The fal is more shoulder friendly on semi....but the true beauty of all HK battle implements is in burst/full auto. Not that I advocate the necessity of it for myself....but I do have a rather large love for the HK autos. The garand is a fine weapon. However, it does lack a couple key components of more modern weaponry. There is no comparing a 91 or a FAL to a garand. Not the same style. Like apples and oranges. There are situations when both would be useful, and when both would suck. Back to the topic at hand.....have you got it? I want a report.....now.
