Handgun Ban In SF

I'm surprised no one has mentioned anything about the handgun ban in San Francisco that was passed Tuesday, aka Proposition H. Here's an article about how the NRA is fighting this.

It won't last. Kalifornia has a law in place banning municipalities from passing local ordinances regarding firearms. And should it ever make it to the Supreme court, it probably wouldn't stand there.

And by the way, the inference of your statement is a little bit specious. You might want to think that one out in case anyone ever asked you to prove the correlation. I don't care to hear it, just FYI.

Funny that you mention that.

And sourced from http://sfgunban.com/content/sfgb_prop_h_arguments.htm

Quote:
"Pink Pistols" Opposes Proposition H

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered people have come a long way since our rebellion at Stonewall in 1969. Now, members of the LGBT community are comfortable being employed as police, firefighters, EMTs, and soldiers.
But police are not enough. There are lessons learned in our struggle over these decades:

* To count on our brothers and sisters in the community,
* To have a proud, self-sufficient community,
* To love ourselves enough to say, "Yes, we are worth saving."

We have a, different vision for San Francisco than Chris Daly. We want a San Francisco where sexual minorities are proud, independent and secure. A San Francisco where we can find refuge, sanctuary and protection in our own home, or the home of a friend, when hatred rears its head. Daly would have us cower in our living rooms and bedrooms, helpless to stop attackers from hurting our friends and families.

The LGBT community has a well deserved reputation for being gentle and nonviolent. We know that deadly force must not be resorted to lightly, but even thinkers such as the Dalai Lama and Mahatma Gandhi saw that using force may be a moral necessity.

Let's fix what's broken in the world, but stand strong together. Remember the lessons of history. Vote No on Proposition H.

San Francisco Pink Pistols

Taken from the same link I posted above for what it's worth:

Proposition H will not reduce crime.

Washington DC banned handguns in 1976. Now their murder rate is 60% higher.

It's not just the State law that supercedes S.F. local ordinances, Federal law supercedes it as well.

It won't last.

I've lived in countries where guns were illegal, and there was terrible crime.

I've lived in countries where guns were legal and there was practically no crime.

And I've lived in countries where guns were legal, and there was lots of crime.

So, I am skeptical of anyone who claims they can prove a correlation between the two either way.

Don't get me wrong, I am an ardent 2nd amendment supporter, but I do not believe that more guns equals more or less crime, nor do I believe that no guns equals less or more crime.

You need to do better than "Washington DC banned handguns in 1976. Now their murder rate is 60% higher." Might try digging a little deeper.

Sorry.

I said it was "for what it's worth". I wasn't going to look hard if you don't care. I just remembered reading that part. Also I thought you didn't care so why are you responding?

How about a little non-patisan humor on the subject?

Question: How do you tell the difference between Democrats, Republicans And
>Southern Republicans?
>
>The answer can be found by posing the following question:
>
>You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small
>children. Suddenly, A Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the
>corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the
>knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Glock .40 cal, and you are
>an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your
>family. What do you do?
>
>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
>
>Democrat's Answer:
>
>Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
>
>Does the man look poor! Or oppressed?
>
>Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
>
>Could we run away?
>
>What does my wife think?
>
>What about the kids?
>
>Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his
>hand?
>
>What does the law say about this situation?
>
>Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?
>
>Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this
>send to society and to my children?
>
>Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
>
>Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound
>me?
>
>Should I call 9-1-1?
>
>Why is this street so deserted?
>
>We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this happier,
>healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
>
>This is all so confusing!
>
>I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a
>consensus.
>
>Is he gay?
>
>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
>
>Republican's Answer:
>
>BANG!
>
>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
>
>Southern Republican's Answer:

>BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click.....(sounds of
>reloading).
>
>BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click

>Daughter: "Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips or

Probably get flamed, but thought it was humorous.

Whatever. It's the same in many other big cities. NO firearms are allowed in Chicago, including air guns. Pretty stupid. Just one of the many reasons I don't live there any more.

I heard NYC was cracking down on TOY GUNS being sold that weren't brightly colored. Go get 'em guys! That will really send a message to those 8 year old criminals!

What part of the 2nd ammendment do these people not understand?

I am still hoping Mrs. McCarthy, Mr Schumer and Ms? Clinton all get the fawk out of NY and let us have our state and rights back.

Um.... ya. Thats so the poolice don't accidentally pop any young-uns. Although they may look like hoodlums, if they are only packing plastic, they are not fair game.

Don't worry, brightly colored plastic guns aren't robbing you of any freedom.

And to keep old-uns that can't afford a real gun from using realistic looking toys to rob convenience stores.

Oh please.

It is about the lame-ass scardey cat northeast liberals and their fear of guns. This same aversion has lead to many needless deaths - include Mrs McCarthy's own husband's death.

There was also a recent thread about a girl getting suspended for doing a REPORT about the NRA. That thread also noted rules about no gun images on clothing. Ridiculous.

If the little shit hoodlum kids want to take on a store owner or a cop with a fake gun, let them go ahead. I have no problem with that. It is one less worthless punk on the street.

Bernie Goetz for president.
