Skillet - Where are you located? We used to have some big Merriams here in Lake Arrowhead, but haven't seen any since the Old Fire in 2003. Those birds look tasty good......

You should set up a deep fryer and have an office lunch.

Laguna Seca Business Park in Monterey, off of HWY 68.
It is the friggin' wild kingdom behind our office.
Bobcats, coyotes, turkeys, snakes, lizards, deer, mountain lions, raccoons... you name it and it passes behind our office.

lol... I use the term loosely...
Here is an overview...the red X is where I took the pics and, as you can see, there is some open land back there that goes right up to the wild area of Fort Ord...

very cool.....I just stare at a street....
Course, some of the people walking by look like similar to wild animals.....okay, most of them do....lots of hippos, duck-billed platypus, blue-footed boobies....you get the idea.

I call BS. The shadows indicate that those pictures were taken at LEAST 30 minutes before the original post.
J/K, Jeb! Nice birds. I see about 40 in the flocks around here....

I live 20 miles or so from Chad and the turkeys are so numerous around here it's nearly unbelievable unless you've experienced it. I've hit two turkeys on my bike, and probably see over 100 a month from the roads alone. We had 22 quail under the bird feeder this morning, picking up scraps from the Chickadees and Nuthatch.
Beautiful coloring on the species you photographed. Ours seem more browns and tans with less of the showy colors.

You're right, Doug. It can be amazing. One of my neighbors (just farther up the road 1/2 mi or so has a flock of over 100 birds every year after the hatch. He also has a part wolf dog and a pet drake mallard. The dog will lay down and the mallard will go hump the shit out of the dogs leg. It's funnier than hell.
I saw a flock of about 20 less than 1/4 mi from my house this morning.

I know. I told them to get video of it......they could have easily won $10K on America's Funniest Videos. They were so used to seeing the duck hump the dog that it wasn't funny to them anymore........it was normal.
