Looks like a good first effort.
How's your cheek weld with the rings that high?
I think I remember from my marine days that Aluminum and Stainless don't like each other. Of course that may only be in a salt water environment...

The Savage's bolt kicks up too high and would have hit the scope. These let the bolt clear. It actually lines up real nice for my eyes. I think I only added a 1/4" to the height. You can get away with stainless and aluminum, but I may also get some brass screws. It has brass right now, but slotted round head.........all the store had

I count four pieces.
Kidding aside, nice job. Get it anodized black and you are set.

I was actually thinking Gunkote might hold up better than anodizing. Any thoughts? My son is already claiming the rifle as his own so it will need to hold up to a 9.5 year old.

I am not familiar with that product. I have used Brownell's Bake-on lacquer fininsh on stainless M1 gas cylinders before.

I think Gunkote is another bake on finish. I would just order from Brownell's anyway.
How has the finish held up for you?

Pretty well as long as you don't bang it into stuff and there are no sharp edges. It looks like you have lots of sharp edges however and you may consider rounding them a bit if you are planning on a spray-on finish.

What no windage adjustment? Friggin amateurs,
Anyway, that will look great with some gun kote or baking lacquer on it. I don't see much anything else having enough durability to last on those sharp edges, as pointed out.
Get a color you can use elsewhere, cause it's (and the proper degreasing spray) spendy for just that little part.
I'm a very DIY kind of guy, but true machine work is one area I've never ventured. It's been a 'one of those days' skill.
Very nice.

Nice work Nat. I'm with CDan; get it anodized black. Google it. There are lots of places online that will do it. Not sure I would use brass screws though. They aren't very strong. I would probably go with normal steel screws in a black oxide finish.

It will definitely get finished black. My wife likes it silver though
The brass screws were only because, that was all the hardware store had. I have a crap load of screws somwhere in the garage, that I could not find

I like Sigs..........alot. Making a Picatinny Rail is pretty straightforward, I could do that no problem.

Thanks, it will look better after it has been polished and coated black. The polishing will soften the edges.

HKparts.net has the sight for $40. I know I've seen them a lot cheaper, just can't remember where... Perhaps the resident HK guru will drop in with a source.
EDIT: This guy has them for $12. I'm not sure whether the washers and screws, etc... are required for that build. I assume the top screw is but the windage screw isnt.... I will investigate more.
