| Looks like a good first effort.
How's your cheek weld with the rings that high?
I think I remember from my marine days that Aluminum and Stainless don't like each other. Of course that may only be in a salt water environment... |

| The Savage's bolt kicks up too high and would have hit the scope. These let the bolt clear. It actually lines up real nice for my eyes. I think I only added a 1/4" to the height. You can get away with stainless and aluminum, but I may also get some brass screws. It has brass right now, but slotted round head.........all the store had |

| I count four pieces.
Kidding aside, nice job. Get it anodized black and you are set.

I was actually thinking Gunkote might hold up better than anodizing. Any thoughts? My son is already claiming the rifle as his own so it will need to hold up to a 9.5 year old. |

| I am not familiar with that product. I have used Brownell's Bake-on lacquer fininsh on stainless M1 gas cylinders before.

How has the finish held up for you? |

| Pretty well as long as you don't bang it into stuff and there are no sharp edges. It looks like you have lots of sharp edges however and you may consider rounding them a bit if you are planning on a spray-on finish.

| What no windage adjustment? Friggin amateurs,
Anyway, that will look great with some gun kote or baking lacquer on it. I don't see much anything else having enough durability to last on those sharp edges, as pointed out.
Get a color you can use elsewhere, cause it's (and the proper degreasing spray) spendy for just that little part.
I'm a very DIY kind of guy, but true machine work is one area I've never ventured. It's been a 'one of those days' skill.
Very nice.

"blah dee blah blah sharp edges blah dee blah."
"blah blah double blah shiny blah blah blah..."
"blah freakin blah white guy el blahito el blahito..."
that is a nice piece of work. |
