how many wolf/dog encounters do you see all the way out there in Virginia?
how many have you personally seen?
"The only reason your dog didn't get eaten was years and years of people shooting at wolves. "
this is not true. at all. the dog ran them off, not me. i didn't pretend to shoot at them with an imaginary gun. no one has been attacked by a wolf in like 100 years.
my parents were taking me on hikes (baby backpack) in Yellowstone before i turned 1. I was riding down rivers in a driftboat about that same time. I learned to ski at the age of 1 1/2. not only learned to reel in the fish dad hooked at 4, but was accomplished on the oars of a drifboat by the age of 6 (dad was a flyfishing guide). dad carried most of the stuff at age 5 like food, but i carried my clothes and sleeping and fishing gear. was ripping down the mountain at 7 on a snowboard, probably passing you. all ski areas are on national forest lands, that is how they contribute to national forest experience, DUH!
if you think my tally is wacky, then, for arguments sake, why don't you add up your years of experience in the same fields of sportsmanship???

"So, have you spent roughly three years worth of nights out, or six years? There is a wee bit of difference. Maybe saying 350-400 would be a good estimation, but 1000-2000......holy margin for error batman!"
How many years have you spent homeless?
Over Bush's term in office, i spent roughly 3 1/2 years without a house or home. That right there is over 1000 nights. don't tell me how long i've spent in the national forest system. your ego preceeds you!
I have volunteered with education organizations for at least
7 1/2 of the last 10 years, without pay. maybe a better estimate for that is also 1000-2000 hours.
and you, how many hours and minutes have you volunteered to people in the last 10 years?

you know, it is really sad when people think that they can assume so much about a person, and then state it as if it's fact. it is VERY clear that you have not grown up with the same experiences as I have!
"Think about it before you fire off another poorly thought out post."
Good advice to give to your own self!

Do you need help removing your foot from your mouth?
To answer your questions: I have seen zero wolf dog encounters in VA. However, if you could loosen the chokehold your ego has on your intellect you might have picked up on the fact that I may not have lived here my whole life.
I said I know Idahodoug right? Do you think there might be a chance that I spent a little time in the NW? I worked off and on for three years for Margaret and Joe Hinson on the Soulen Ranch in Southern ID. They have Dog-wolf and human-wolf encounters on a weekly basis. I also spent a several weeks helping them implement ways to better protect their sheep. I personally have seen wolves in the wild three times, and thankfully, none were danger close. I have also seen hours of footage of packs of wolves taking down prey. You and your mutt don't stand a chance if they want you.
The wolf was supposed to know that you didn't have a gun? Right. Shooting at them with an imaginary gun? let me know how that works out for you.
A student was eaten by wolves in Canada two years ago. Peoples dogs are attacked while they are walking them on a regular basis.
Yeah, I am sure that being carried on a hike as a baby makes you more experienced. I'll have to make sure that my kids tell the driving instructors that they have 15 years of driving experience when they start driving because I let them steer around the back 40 a couple times as toddlers
I am not interested in having a "my truck is bigger than your truck" argument with you about how many nights spent out. Most of us stopped doing that in third grade.
All ski resorts are NOT on NF land
I am sorry that you were homeless, but my question remains--was it 1000 or 2000? Once again your reading comprehension betrays you. my example of 350-400 was merely a demonstration of a realistic estimation--nowhere did I say that it was the amount of time you have spent out there.
I have spent the last ten years in the Marine Corps. Thank you very much.
I haven't assumed anything about about you. I base my opinions on the information given here. So far, your info has been poor.
Something about being homeless, claiming to have spent all of that time in the NF system, and also claiming to have spent that time volunteering is not adding up. In addition, if you were in the NF, I wonder if you poached for survival? I don't have a problem with that, but as much as you complained about poaching in the other thread......
I am interested in reading a well thought out reasonable post. I think you have something to offer this discussion, but you are doing a poor job of offering it.
