I feel sorry for new jersey gunowners....

The Commonwealth of new Friggin' Jersey has decided not only is the .50 BMG an evil gun, but ALL .50 caliber guns are evil, even those from the Revolutionary War and the Old West.

And to think someone here said we were paranoid. It's not paranoia when they really ARE out to ban your guns.

New Jersey Assembly Committee Passes Gun Ban!

Thursday, June 12, 2008

Please Contact Your Assemblymembers Today!

Today, Thursday, June 12, the New Jersey Assembly Judiciary Committee passed A2116 by a vote of 5-1.

As passed, the legislation will ban virtually all firearms over .50 caliber. While the Committee attempted to address some of the concerns of gun owners and sportsmen, it still bans many popular hunting guns, historical American firearms, and large bore target firearms, based on alleged public safety concerns. Included are historical American firearms and replicas, including those from the Revolutionary War and Civil War eras. The legislation makes the fundamental mistake of banning guns based on the size of the barrel rather than punishing criminal behavior.

Proponents of the ban attempted to demonize a whole class of firearms and their owners by claiming the only intent of these firearms is criminal misuse. Testifying before the committee as legal and technical experts of .50 caliber firearms were NRA Board Members Scott Bach, Bob Viden and John Burtt.

Please call and thank the lone opponent of this legislation, Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande (R-12), at (732) 866-1695 and thank her for her efforts in defending New Jersey’s sporting and firearms heritage. Also please immediately email, call, and/or fax your Assemblymembers and respectfully urge them to oppose A2116! Contact information for your Assemblymembers can be found here.

are these people on crack? something funny is blowing down wind from nyc or something...

As much as I don't like this type of "gun control"...the folks that came up with this were likely "elected".

If NJ. residents elected them...then they deserve what they get.

So would a muzzleloader be included under this umbrella? This is incredibly stupid, but it's hard to expect more from the NJ legislature.

Sounds like it. Probably includes some paint-ball guns (although they probably didn't think of that).

Well, the sheeple deserve what they get, but gunowners, who no doubt are a minority in New Friggin' Jersey, aren't, and keep getting the short end of the stick.

Hmm, so much for the, "they aren't going to take your guns" sentiment many gun owners here on MUD have.

I think that whole arguement that I just mentioned is just a way for weak minded gun owners to side step the issue that is facing every gun owner in america.

I really hope the don't do a lot of research. B/c if they do they are going to realize the majority of killings and firearm related injuries come by the 9mm or other similar hand gun ammo. And I don't want to have to blackmarket 9mm ammo.

This ban in NJ might seems as though it is harmless since who really uses a BMG .50. But it is far from harmless. This just gives precedent to all other liberal states. They can say, "Hmm, lets take this one step further and ban anything .40 caliber or larger." Do you know how many calibers and different guns that ban would cause? You don't even want to think about it.

So until '74 UAFJ decides to tell me that they won't take our guns. He and all others who prescribe to this way of thinking need to shut up and think about it for a minute.

That makes two major gun related bans that are either passing their way through assemblies or have passed committies(CA ammo rationing is the other one). This is not good especially when we seem to be destined to get a closet-muslim democrat for our next president who just happens to be from CA-lite, Illinois.

I agree with you luntou, this could have a large effect on the hunting community and industry. The fastest growing segment in hunting is muzzleloading. Most inline muzzleloaders are .50 caliber. So are all .50 caliber rifles banned? Will the NRA be challenging this new law? This type of law is why I support and belong to the NRA.

If I'm not mistaken this could ban the arms that were used in the revolutionary war and those which the 2nd amendment specifically infers at the time of retification.

Neat-O.

Why does NJ hate America?

Keep in mind that when Illinois tried to ban .50 cal and larger guns, they did not specify an exemption for shotguns. This would have outlawed 10ga, 12ga, 16ga, 20ga and 28ga, leaving only the .410 as being legal, since it's the only one of the group under .50 cal.

Finally someone agrees with me. Thanks Cattledog.

Besides fearing the banning of muzzleloaders I fear the cascading affect of this ban. If this passes, what keeps them from dropping the caliber ban down to .45 which would ban alot of pistol rounds and cowboy action firearms.

Commyfornia already has the .50 cal ban doesn't it? Or they have tried to get it passed in the past, right?

Wow, I never even considered this at all.

Brian I don't care what anyone says, you keep up the good work keeping us gunowners informed and I will keep defending you.
