In honor of Flint.

Last night, my wife and her friend walk in and present me with 3 baby quail that they had found washing down the street on their walk. The things were tiny as all 3 would fit in the palm of my hand. Well, before the old Earle thread, I probably would have just put them outside as they were in bad shape. However, in the spirit of old Flint, I pulled out the heat lamp and dried them out about 30 minutes later, they were hopping around and chirping like mad. Well all 3 survived the night and were dropped off at a rehab place this morning. They will be rehabbed and turned loose this summer when they are full grown.

Great job!

What are the odds of them ending up on Chad's table this fall

If they were Bobwhite's, I have no problems. I shot my first (and likely last) California quail down by Troy, Id, two seasons ago. Damn thing was too cute. I felt bad.

Chad lives way north. Unless he comes down here to hunt.

Quail are awesome.

Good for you for the rescue.

I did not raise any this year, but for the past 2 years, I raised about 2000 bobwhites and turned them loose on my property. I have not seen any in the past year on my property, but a neighbor a mile or two down the road says he is still seeing quail regularly. Hopefully I can re-establish some population in my area.

The US needs more people taking care of Quail. My dad used to hunt them, but them seem to have just left our area in southern MO.

California Quail are thick around here - right in our neighborhood. They love to roost in our pine trees in the back yard for some reason and sometimes in the morning my heart gets a jump start if I go out the back door and they all burst out of the trees simultaneously. Good on ya for helping them out.

Actually the Bobwhites are the ones that are in trouble. Once plentiful all over the midwest and southeast they have all but disappeared in these areas. The southwest is the only place left that has good populations. The California Quail being a western bird still has access to good habitat and is doing very well. They taste very good, right up there with grouse for one of the best tasting upland birds.
