Waiting for tags

One more week to find out If I drew a big game tag. I plan my summer outings to scout for big game. If I dont get any tags I do a lot more fishing. The wait is painful. Anyone else standing by the mail box?

I am expecting to draw my once in a life time Oregon Bighorn tag.

Back to reality.... I can't wait to see what I didn't draw this year.

When I lived in Colorado I drew a Cow tag every year I applied and filled every year (15) Now that I live on Orygun I can't seem to draw shit!. Colorado is a 22 hour drive and over $400.00 for tag which brings the price per pound for Elk greater than Cocaine!!!. I hope I draw a Bull Elk for Ukiah (well known Elk spot in eastern Orygun) or a cow tag in the same area or neighboring Starkey unit! Will find out soon

A year of firsts for me

  • First pronghorn hunt. I drew a tag for east of Pueblo.
  • First smokepole hunt. I bought one last year, but struck out on a muley buck tag. I drew a bull tag for this year which allows me to hunt in all of the GMUs surrounding me. I can't wait to hunt the rut!!!

Elk is a better thing to spend your money on than cocaine though, and IMHO it's more addictive!

GMU 11/211 Meeker area been pretty sucessful for cows about the past 9 years got skunked last year. This will be my first bull hunt, can't wait. Yea by the time you get the tag and pay for fuel its spendy but you cant beat the quality of elk meat. No deer tag this year and dosen't look like I drew anything in Nevada witch I am not surprised.

"I got a rock!" in Oregon. The good news is I saw a BIG buck in velvet today as I was driving home from fishing. Funny thing is he was very close to where I saw a monster buck last season. I better start making plans for bow season.

Ditto on this end. I applied for Pronghorn (again)...I think I saw more Pronghorn's last season than chuks . They sure are stingy with those tags aren't they?!

Do you have to draw all your big game tags?

or are you looking for that one special ungulate to cover up the hole "inthewall".

Our dead line for entries was the 13th so now I am waiting, waiting, waiting.....

We have to go through a draw for all our tags, except Mountain Lion. I have been pretty lucky in the past, I cant complain too much.

In CO, we can have two elk, two deer, and two antelope. It's like Noah's Ark in the deep freezer! The pronghorn can be tough to draw. With the elk and deer, as long as you aren't holding out for the most prized GMU, you can easily get one tag in the draw and the other as a leftover. If anyone needs to come this way to knock down some meat, let me know. I'm always eager and willing to go along on someone else's hunt!

Inthewall,

My wife & I drew with a group in your backyard (101-108E) Everyone that I know that put in, in that area, drew. Did you put in for that area?

It was our third choice & I have never hunted up that way, only fished. I'll have my bright yellow 60 up there, so if you see me, give me a shout. Any area tips would be greatly apreciated I'm looking forward to spending some time up there. When I was a kid we spent alot of time staying with friends in Lamoile & fishing the valleys, as well as the marshes. It's definately beautiful country.

My wife drew 101 early deer along with 1900 other people. I will be helping her. I hope it snows early like last year. I had a 101 muzzy tag last year. I saw a lot of decent bucks, but nothing I wanted to backpack out of the high country. Good luck, it should be a good hunt. Ill be in a lifted, all pro bumpered, silver fj cruiser, part of the time. The rest of the time ill be in a pair of mendle boots wearing camo.

almost 2000 tags, I'm sure that there will be ATV traffic jams all over the place.

The early snow was nice last year and the year before. we hunted near Ely the last 2 years & had the same issue. The wilderness hiking is a bear & It's only worth the effort to drop a trophy. Saw some decent bucks but nothing worth packing out. Ended up road hunting and everyone filled thier tags with forkies and 3's... good eating atleast.

I'm alittle intimidated by the Rubies... thats some steep, nearly in-accessible country. We'll have few horses, but they always seem to be more of a pain than they are worth.

You can see the 60 from 10 miles away with the naked eye, so keep your eye's out, bright yellow is not the best color for stalking the rest of the time I'll be in my rocky's with camo

Yahoo.....Limited Entry draw. Bull Moose tag in the area that I am Caribou hunting on horses this October.

It's going to be a tough decision, I don't think a packhorse can carry a whole moose....I might be walking out.
