Not to mention, it really sucks balls hand winding it back on.

Well I rigged it so that the reel actually spins freely and I can actually reel it back up. It is definatly a redneck rigging but it actually makes it alot easier.
If I happen onto a reel and set up I will surely buy it.
BB, do you have anything significant to add to this thread....if not please journey back to s-chat. I am not sure why woody let you come back, you haven't changed a bit.

I'm intrigued by bowfishing, but I don't think there's a lot of opportunities for it locally.

I have bowfished for years. By far the best investment I ever made is the AMS bow reel.
As far as depth of shot I have shot rays 10 feet or better deep. The type of broadhead has alot to do with water planing. Flat barbs that are not inline with the arrow are the usual culprit. As far as fletching, I shoot without. The weight of the arrow, broadhead and drag of the line will keep the arrow true. Shots on shallow water carb of 40 feet are common. I will say that with the old drum type reels 30 ft was a stretch and usually unsuccessful. The AMS style reel has virtually no line drag and will launch a arrow. Jeff

Really? Turkey hunting with a rifle? How hard would it be to shoot a turkey at 150 yards? You could always hunt a turkey with a bow.....
Turkey hunting, at least Easterns, is alot harder than you think. Try calling one in to 30 yards and then shoot it.

Well, don't ever try a reel setup, because you will never go back to that thing you are using. They take sooo much longer that a follow up shot is impossible. Not that follow up shots are really feasible unless you just miss so wildly....

I never said turkey hunting was easy, and that is one reason I don't do it. I don't have time to commit to learning what the good hunters know.
I would never attempt to shoot a turkey with a rifle at 150 yards. If I were hunting I would call them up just like a regular hunter and then I would shoot them in the head at 30-40 yards.

I have used a reel setup and I did like it. I didn't hit any fish but it was much easier except when you forget to hit the release button.
