KAYAKS...

I'm looking for opinions on a small kayak. What it will be used for is locating small strips of saltwater marsh grass. Typical use would be in a tidal creek, maybe a total of 1500' of water travel then back in the truck. I'm looking for one that is light, small, and easy to use. Where is a good place to look for a used one. Are used kayaks common? Can you drill holes into them and mount a bracket?

SOMETHING LIKE THIS ONE or smaller

I just bought 2 Old Town 12' and like them. I heard they were pretty good. the back hatch won me over. They are more expencive and heavier. for your distance I would think a 10' would be ok. There are fishing version kayaks.

Dirigo 106 Angler Kayak - Old Town Canoes and Kayaks
This hatch is a real hatch IMHO. This one has hinges and is possible to open and close underway. the others would be a pain to open in close underway as they are just a cap.

The seats are nice also.

I have the Dirigo 120. it's 55lbs and is pretty hard to load alone.

I had some con-fer rain gutter attachments and made racks out of them for the Kayaks. Pretty much a straight bar with fun noodles for pads.

I paddled around in a one seater very light canoe a few weeks ago. You'd have to be coordinated to not sink that thing, though. It was top heavy.

I agree, canoes are awkward. I need something small and easy to maneuver.

I'd like to see your fat ass try to drive this one that I was in. It's about 40 pounds and you sit two feet above the water. You'd be wet in about three seconds. I had to take care not to get wet in it.

I got a sit on top kayak from LL Bean for about $450--since I ordered around Christmas I got free shipping--Bean's got a lot to choose from (they've become the Wal Mart of kayaks it seems).

Go longer if you can, and check out craigslist often. Fishing kayaks are nice, but the reality is you can set one up cheaper if you're not picky. I considered getting one till I watched some guys trying to paddle with an onshore wind blowing, fuck that. Go gheenoe, flat back canoe or a small john boat with a small out board and be done with it, you wouldn't necessarily need a trailer for any of those.

I don't get your logic. These were three brand new canoes. He dumped his kid so he is selling all three. WTF?
