Virginia New Hunter

Hello,

I'm 22 years old and I'd like to start hunting this upcoming fall. I plan on hunting birds (duck and quail) with a shotgun and I can handle that pretty well on my own. However, I would like to try my hand at deer hunting. Chances are I'd just give most of the meat to Hunters for the Hungry here in VA, but I wouldn't mind a nice rack on the wall. Does anyone here hunt in VA? I thought of hunting the GWNF, but how crowded does that place get? Do you really need a high power rifle for VA or can you get by with a slug barrel on a 12ga? Should I start deer hunting with a bow? Where should I hunt in VA?
