Look what happens when you don't go fishing with your friends

A friend of mine missed out on these fish when his buddies asked him to go fishing. We are headed up to that lake soon.

I'm gonna guess triploid rainbows. Definately not cutthroat. The spots don't diminish from the tail to the head.

Footballs for sure! Did you punt a couple to check?

They must have been in a core reactor cooling pond. Do they have three eyes?

It is called Parvin Lake near Red Feather. There is a sign there that says that the Tiger Muskies must be at least 36" to keep. A friend and I belly boated it last year and he caught two like the ones above. I was just praying that I did not catch a 3ft muskie while I was in the belly boat or have one nip at my leg while I was in the middle of the lake.

I think they were fishing off the shore with spinning rods with flys (with the clear bobbers). They went about a month ago.

Those fatties look like triplolids: XXX

The caudal fin abrasion on the top two pics is consistent with them being hatchery raised fish.

Good to know. The hatcheries here usually clip the adipose fin to mark hatchery fish.

Hmmmmm, thought that was just steelhead. Is that anadromous fish (including salmon)? Usually, we clip the adipose fin for genetic analysis.

Hell yes! When I was in high school I worked at the Boy Scout camp up there. We used to laugh at all the city suckers coming up to fish shoulder-to-shoulder in the "Gold Medal" Cache la Poudre when the big boys were clearly elsewhere...
