interview questions?

Hey everyone-

I am going in for my NYS CCW interview, fingerprinting and ID photo this week and I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what to expect.

Never thought I'd be doing this and have no clue as to whether I should expect a pleasant interview or an interrogation.

Thanks.

Now that is something I didn't know. Here, the local Sheriff's dept does a background check and fingerprints you. There was a short questionaire.

Now the personal interview for my blasters license was a WAYYYYYYYYYYY thorough inspection.

we still have prints and background check, but no interview and we need give no reason(shall issue) for wanting a permit.......if you have a clean(ish) record.....you get your permit.

heck even a reformed felon can own and carry a gun....as long as he jumped thru a few hoops and had been a good boy for many years.......not that I know such a person.....but I hear it can be done

if asked I would say ZOMMBIES

Cali is a may issue state, Many counties such as L.A. and S.F. do'nt issue.
Others like Kern and Tulare are much better about issueing. It is my understanding that the new sheriff of Fresno county, Margaret Mimms is issueing much more liberally.

I had to go to an interview for this in CA years ago. It was pretty straight forward and the Sheriff's deputy that did the interview really just wanted to see if I was a kook, mentally unstable, or had crank scars all over myself IMO. They may ask you the "need" related question and I would just answer that you want it for personal defense. Don't come across as Dirty Harry.

I had a CA permit for about 10 years before I moved to CO.

Let us know how it goes.

update

Hey guys and gals-

Ok, so here is the scoop on Tompkins county New York, ie Ithaca and surrounding areas. No big deal. This county does not issue for self defense so the Sheriff department pistol permit clerk, who is very nice and forthcoming, read my detailed reasons for the need to carry, whited out that section and told me to write "Hunting and Fishing". Those are the only reasons that a permit will be issued in this county.

Even if you work with large sums of money and ask for a permit to carry while you make drop offs, you will only get a permit with those restrictions, ie. no concealed carry unless you are hunting or fishing and any other times, like during transport etc. the pistol must be in a lock box with ammo locked separately. She told me pistols even, technically, must be in a lock box in your own home. Wow. NY is super tough on people who want to defend themselves.

She asked me a few questions about myself and had me sign a bunch of forms, took about 5 sets of complete prints and gave me more questionnaires for references to sign and have notarized.

It was a very pleasant experience. I get the feeling that the politicians just want to make it a huge pain in the ass to go through with the whole process so that most people won't bother. I mean there are a few hoops to jump through, not only for the applicant but for the people s/he asks to be refs.

Lots of time and expense and annoyance but I feel like it is worth it.

It doesn't sound like it. Sounds like you are explicitly not allowed to carry for your own protection. Aren't you allowed to open carry while hunting anyway?

What do you all do before the legal season when you're scouting? I've carried open before and had been told to say I was hunting coyotes....I've got to lie about wanting to be "prepared" even in the middle of the damn forest.

I did my CCW initially in Erie County, took damn near 6 months with the friggin' County bureaucracy, but all my copper buddies ran all my prints and background checks. The interview was with a Judge that I knew, so mine consisted of sitting around BSing about gubs.

The judge packed the heat too

NYS is the straight up debil when it comes to carry permits, granted your more rural counties are better than your more urban/sub-urban counties.

Huh?

You went through all that and are subject all this:
FindLaw: NY Code

Just so you can carry a concealed handgun while hunting or fishing ONLY!

My God man, pick up your stuff and move to Vermont (a state that still trusts it's citizens). You won't need a permit or permission of any type there. If you want to carry, do it.

I'm sorry, but you gained nothing IMO.

Next time you bump into a "liberal", be sure and thank them.

Note to self: Never go to NY state for any reason.

yep

We actually used to live in Vermont but our lease was up, the owners sold the house and we found this farm in NY state and we bought it. It has turned out to be a huge error in judgement for many reasons, least of which is this ccw issue.

We never in our wildest dreams thought we'd even be applying for CCW for any reason. In fact we are those liberals you are talking about so this in some stupid roundabout way could be construed as partially our own fault. However, it is somewhat close minded to use a blanket term like "liberals" to find fault in this ridiculous legislation we have in NYS. I am a liberal, tree hugger, organic farmer, animal lover, recycler, solar power user, label me as you will. I still believe in some level of gun control. I wish all guns were destroyed so noone needed any kind of gun. Since this will probably never happen and I am a rational person I also have no problem with responsible people carrying appropriate non-automatic firearms for protection. I also wish I could carry concealed to protect my family and others because guns do exist and there are clearly bad people out there, people who have touched my life.

Returning to Vermont actually is our final destination for many reasons, ccw not being among them, but it is nice that it is not an issue in the great green state. Unfortunately the housing market is crap, Vermont housing market is a sellers market and we can't just pick up and leave.

Maybe it's stupid to go through all this to get what will amount to a relatively useless chunk of metal, but it is a small awkward step towards doing every thing I can to be prepared. If, god forbid, something happens in the coming months when this psycho may be released at least there is a chance that this chunk of metal could save our lives. I refuse to do anything less than everything I can to be prepared to protect my family. If something happens at least I did my very fucking best.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully something better will work out for you.

Well....I hate to be "blunt", but it damn sure wasn't the conservatives fault. So...who else do I look to for these ridiculous, feel good, Utopian, laws that make it impossible for normal law abiding citizens to protect themselves?????????

Quote:

Not trying to "label" you at all. I completely support and encourage you to live any legal lifestyle you wish.

Quote:

So do I....but there are currently over 22,000 gun laws on the books, so surely its all been covered. Hard to imagine we need any more.

Quote:
I wish all guns were destroyed so noone needed any kind of gun.
Well...I wish had a million dollars and a 10 inch pecker too....but I don't have either...so I'll just have to live with reality.

Quote:

Its not "probably" never going to happen. It WILL never happen. And not to be negative, but things are only going to get worse. No....I am not happy about that, but thats reality.

Quote:

I wish you could carry concealed too (if you so choose). No question there are bad people out there, and they don't need a "gun" to harm you.

The problem is "bad people" not the tool they choose to use. I guess you have noticed that the "bad people" have all the guns they want. So, all those "liberal" laws aren't really working out so hot...except to effect YOU (the law abiding citizen).

I understand, I truly hope things work out for you and your family.

No, its not "stupid" to try to be prepared. Its "fruitless" perhaps...since the laws only allow you to carry under such restrictive conditions that its practically useless to you.

Quote:

I hope it doesn't come to that, but you may be assured that if an incident does occur, you will need to be able to deal with it yourself. The police will not be there until after it is all over. Not that they wouldn't try to stop someone...its just a plain fact they can't be everywhere all the time.

Quote:
I refuse to do anything less than everything I can to be prepared to protect my family. If something happens at least I did my very fucking best.
And for this I commend you! Anything less is unthinkable IMO, and any real man...will do all in his power to protect his family against the unlawful acts of others who would seek to cause them harm.

To that end...I would ask that you extend that same right to others by supporting legislation that makes it possible for them to do so, and not legislation that effectively neuters them.

I will pray for a good outcome for you and your family. Prepare yourself as best you can...and stay alert.

Flint.

Unless something has changed, In Oregon, you can actually carry concealed while coming or going from a hunting/fishing expedition. Otherwise you need a permit which is a simple process here.

What county in CA?

Some are very liberal, some are not. Some refuse to issue unless its a female US Senator
