i heard Kalashnikov AK-47 is the origanl and expensive. Probably more of a collector i don't know about quality compared to the many knock offs. Can I ask why a AK-47?

The most popular nowadays seem to be Yugoslavian and Romanian. I think both are drying up. I don't know why the Yugo's are but basically the Romanian factory is switching over to making Auto parts.
Anyway, I have shot many Romanian ak47s and they are simple and super reliable, kinda like cruisers. Its a pretty good entry ak, you can't go wrong with them. |

I have all kinds of guns. I just thought I needed an Ak. Besides if the election goes the wrong way they will probably get banned.

If you want the best find a Galili from Israel, second I would go for a Valmet from Finland. I have a Valmet M-71 in .223 and it is a really nice weapon. I hear that the Egyptians make great AK's as well. Those would be my three choices for a first rate AK. JMHO

A russian friend of mine tells me that the Russian AK is superior to all others--go figure. Having had several russian SKS rifles and several Chinese SKS rifles, I tend to believe him. My wife just bought me a Romanian AK and it seems like a good quality weapon for what it is.

I have an SKS- yugo I believe- fun to shoot- and you can pretty much pack mud into and it will still shoot.

the rommies are bottom of the barrel, quality wise.
the typically have canted front sight blocks, canted gas blocks, the rear sights can be goofy. they are the only imported ak at this time(the siaga's are not really an ak) all others are assembled here in the states. to get around certian import laws they are assembled as single stack low magazine cap weapons. once they arrive here the clowns at century open the mag well up to use normal double stack ak mags. they tend to go over board with the grinder, and over open the well. making for a sloppy mag fitment. they also do not clean the chips out of the receiver prior to shipping. with that said, if you are handy with small hand tools, they are great ak's. look at them as a fully assembled kit gun, that you need to fine tune. with that said also, my rominain underfolder is one of my favorite pieces. it, like a cruiser runs each and every time. they are a true ak in the sense of the word, down and dirty but gets the job done. the yugos are also century guns, but the build quality is much higher. never seen it siad, but i'm sure century does not build them themselves. i have two yugos, one plain jane wood stock and one rpk version. all three of mine came with the tapco g2 triggers....much better then the older guns. if you can look a rommy over in person go for it, but if you're buying over the net, relying on somebody elses word. buy a yugo. both yugos and rommies are right around the $500 mark depending on which version you get. anything more than that is just over kill for an ak. there were very, very few russian semi auto aks brought over. they are pretty spendy to find. i've heard it was less than a few thousand that made it in. no pics here but could post some once home. __________________ it's only metal, we can out think it. 77-fj40 20th anniversary edition 87-fj60 216K mile DDer 93-fzj80 mall crawler toyota material distribution center. your source for Factory Service Manuals. they're alot cheaper than you think. 1-800-622-2033 |

Why not?
The most successful, copied, reliable weapon ever designed. They are damn good guns. You can pretty much throw it in a mudhole, hose it off and keep on firing. __________________ 1993 FZJ80 1973 FJ40 oh no you didn't "...mud is a hotbed of leftist chat/activity." - swank |

I don't think that anyone with a brain would want to stand in front of any gun.
Here's a question: If you had to stand in front of an AR15 or an AK47 at 100 yards, which one would it be? __________________ 1974 FJ40 FI vortec 350, H42/Orion 4:1, 4" lift, 35x15.50 SXs on MRW beadlocks, lock-rited f/r, Saginaw ps, etc, etc. 1994 FZJ80 with lockers and 285 revos. |

they are good guns.
I choose the ar15 because i like the way it looks easy to get add ons and parts, and is more accurate than the ak. An auto ak would be a good gun to have but the semi i'm not going to get cause of the accuracy. Just my opinion. __________________ 1977 FJ40 Hardtop/ S-O-R’s Safari Summer Top®. Fiberglass tub. to answer, neither. both have right around 1100 ft/lbs @ 100yards. if i had to pick, it would be the smaller hole of the 5.56. __________________ it's only metal, we can out think it. 77-fj40 20th anniversary edition 87-fj60 216K mile DDer 93-fzj80 mall crawler toyota material distribution center. your source for Factory Service Manuals. they're alot cheaper than you think. 1-800-622-2033 |

just my 2 cents, I have a bulgarian milled receiver ak which I really really like,, ok love,,,if you can love a gun!
I have never had a problem with it, it was a thumbhole gun when I bought it and I believe you are right, if the election goes the wrong way lots of guns are on the chopping block, so I have chosen to take my ar's, ak's and hi cap hand guns/mags off the market until I see what happens, the price will shoot up for no real reason, unless they start making the new guns not take the old mags,,,, __________________ 78 40 not stock... so are we talking about AK-47s or ???
an AK-47 is a russian-made selective fire automatic weapon. I imagine an AK-47 will run you $5K or $10K and you'll need a bunch of class 3 paperwork to get one if you live in one of the lucky states (NV is one I guess). all the other stuff, various semi-automatic crappy clones and all are just that... Sorry, don't mean to be pedantic, but correct labeling is important. That's how they get to ban semi-automatic "assault weapons"... by making them sound like the real thing ... __________________ '97: 88K, 3xlock, Custom HD roo bar for sale, 285 MT/Rs on steelies, Hanna sliders, 851+1.5"/863/N73/N74E/SD24, ARB bull with M12, Kaymar with duals, Kaymar rack, Slee TC skid, 2m/440, more stuff, loose nut behind the wheel!)
