I just throw in my gun, dogfood, and bottled water. Then I let the dogs run hogwild in the back of the fjcruiser or 40. I hose it out after seasons over

inthewall, I don't know why I thought you might have a response to this thread. We normally take an 80 sometimes a 4skinner. Drive to desired location (with dog/s going apeshit in the back), then get out and do our thang.

I hunt chuckar, quail, pheasants, ducks, and geese. Mostly ducks and geese since I lived around water more then upland bird territory.

I use my dads suburban so I dont have to clean it out. Come home with blood and dirt inside get out take out my stuff and step into the clean yota and head out on the town.

Wob do you live in the lower part of the state? IF so do you all do alot of birdhunting still? the upper part has killed our population due to habitat change and massive construction. how is it down there?

I'm roughly halfway between Chs and Cola. There is a lot of duck and dove hunting around here, not a whole lot of wild quail, though.

it keeps getting worse for the wild quail population. I have started hatching my own birds and releasing them at about 5 weeks of age. Its pretty fun , they actually fly pretty good.

What do you attribute the quail population decline to?

We've had this discussion before on here. Many people around here say lack of cover, some say fire ants, some say too high of predation from other animals.

my personel opinion is lack of habitat. when i was a kid there were plentiful quail. that wasnt too long ago. alot of the private farms have been turned into small industrial parks and neighborhood. the paper companies are planting pine to close together and not enough undergrowth and habitat available for quail on most of the WMA lands. There are some named WMAs that do specify habitat for quail but there are not very good hunting. Alot of the biologist are not doing a good job as well. Its tough now. all of your post above is true as well. I was doing some research and found a man in washington state that has found a way to replenish populations. it works i have tried it. GOOGLE Dale Davis Quail and see what you get.

FJ 40 rear seat out kennel strapped down door to front w/top off we hit the logging roads for grouse, I let my daughters get out snd shoot them send the old lab to get them. My lab is getting to old for a real hunt anymore I took him out all day last year and he slept the next few days on his bed in front of the pellet stove (he was really sore). I am in the market for a pup SOON!

Around here a common belief is urban sprawl introducing predators in the form of domestic cats. Pheasant populations in areas which have housing developments within 10 miles have been spiraling for years.

Quail and Chucker populations vary year over year depending on the spring/summer we have. Last year was a low water year thus chucker populations sucked.

I hunt all over the West. The Montana photo is West Central MT - those are the Crazy mountains in the background.

My setters are a English, trial-bred setters. The one in the picture belongs to my friend, and it IS a Llewelin. Here is one of my dogs - Ted - on point in Montana sharptails last season...

here is a photo of me walking in on one of his points...

Mike did you make the box that the dog crate sits on? And would the dimensions be different for a 60?

That drawer system was made for my old 60 by a friend. I moved it to the 80 when I sold the 60. It has bays for 3 shotguns to fit diagonally - fully set up, and in sleeves. Also allows the dogs to look out the windows...
