BSA Scope debacle...

While shooting my 10/22 a couple weeks ago, my fairly new BSA 22 scope was working perfectly.

Nat was sitting right next to me so he can attest to this...

Only the second time out shooting with it.

Well, I finished up a magazine, dropped it out, put another one in, chambered a round and began to fire.

Could not hit the broad side of a barn with it. Same target, same position, same ammo, etc, etc.

Messed with it for a 1/2 hour and it would not site.

Took the scope off and the gun was firing perfect with open sites.

WTF?

Admittedly, the scope was inexpensive and just meant for .22 caliber but to just fail like that for no reason at all?

Anyone ever experience sudden failure like this?

This is the exact moment when the failure occured...

Only when wearing Teva's. Homo.

I've had the scope rings walk to the back of the rifle during firing, which resulted in........you guessed it..........poor accuracy. However, I don't think a scope should just 'fail' as you described it between 2 magazines. That's crazy.

I reserve the right to only wear my Teva's when I'm wading. No socks allowed.

The rings did not walk. They were nice and snug, on the scope and on the gun.

What is wrong with Tevas when it is 78 degrees out?

Just cuz I don't live in your 'colder than a witch's tit' part of the country.
I am not wearing socks. That would be fashion faux pas.

It was crazy, it happened exactly as Skillet said. No amount of messing around with it made any difference.

That's the problem right there. Uber cheap POS.

I was kidding, there's nothing wrong with Tevas (if you're one of them).
I'd like to know how to deal with the associated foot sweat though. Mine get all slimey, and they're supposed to have the anti-slime/stink/sweat footbed thingy.

I put a bsa sweet 17 on my Ruger 77/17. I could never get it to shoot well even at 50 yards. I bought a sweet 22 for my new Savage then read about the issues with bsa. I returned it to Cabelas right away. I bought a Mueller APV and couldn't be happier.

My understanding is bsa has 0 QC.

The trick is to keep fresh dirt in their. Absorbs the sweat.

If I'm not mistaken, BSA has just glue that holds the reticle in place.

Tevas are great fishing shoes, even gives the bluegills something to nibble on

Good idea, lets redo the mythbuster's episode where they were examining the guy killed looking through his scope by another sniper.

When you buy quality, you only cry once. People always buy quality gubs, but then they skimp on the glass. You gotta buy good glass.

The good news is that quality glass has never been more affordable. I've been really happy with Burris, but I have a "cheap" simmons on my bolt action .243 that has lasted for years with no problems.
