Going shooting...

Myself and a couple other mud people are going for a little shoot-fest in the BLM land behind Hollister, CA this weekend, 3/7/2008.

Anyone want to come out and plink?

We will be camping but day shooters are welcome too.

You could come out to the east side of the big valley and shoot some ground squirels.

Plywood and red spraypaint. Works for me.

Actually, I would love to do that. However, Nat and Eddy have small kids coming out. Don't know if blowing whistle pigs into a zillion pieces is acceptable to all children.

We should set that up for another time though and I will drag the earth-tone 40 over. You know, kill 2 squirrels with one round.

I first moved to were I currently live about 7.5 years ago. They were everywhere. I had 3 friends come out and we each averaged 26 squirels per hour while sitting in lawn chairs. We used a table as a bench rest for the 10/22's. I found that a 200yards the Ruger 10/22 is dead on using CCI high velocity hollow point are dead on using a leapold scope. At that range the remington rounds that you buy by the 550 round brick would be 8" off.

They neighbors started buying us ammo so we could take their squirels out as well. Every sunday morning from sun-up till noon was "open season".

We don't have time to keep up this pace so we switched to bait tubes and now feed the squirels PCR. It works but I still have some rebel squirels that need to be gone, so do the neighbors.

The kids generally have the most fun. You can teach them gun safety in a real world eviroment and how to clean a fur bearing animal.

If you decide to schedule it, please let me know. My dad would love to come too, he's bought a couple .22's over the past year and is getting bored punching paper.

I should have PM'd you when I picked up the Prowler so we could have swung by and said hi...

Whistle-Pig Pow-Wow.

Sounds like good times.

We could make it an annual event.

What do you think Dan?

Sounds good! We could do a little 4x4 run on my 36acre rock park and camp out as well.

The best time to shoot squirels is about an hour after the morning dew is gone until about 10:30am and then again from two hours before the sun goes down.

Bring you big clips.

You are all hurting me here. Let me know when and where and I will try to make it. By then I should have an evil, not Kalifornia approved, black rifle for varmints. Big clip included.

Leave those at home. Importing magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds that were not possessed in CA prior to Jan 1 2000 is a felony. Possession of an unregistered "assault rifle" is either an infraction or a felony, depending on the DA in the county your are arrested in.

I may be way off base here becuase I have not purchased any myself, but a friend and avid shooter told me that he walked into a sporting goods store here in California the other day and bought 6 25 round clips for his 10/22.
I told him he was full of shit.
He explained that the store owner told him that .22's were no longer put in the same category as "assault weapons" so you can buy hi cap mags for them now in Cali.

Anyone else heard of this?

Seriously, this guy would have zero reason to make this up.

No idea. The only exemption I'm aware of are tube magazines on a rimfire, and I'm not positive about that. I would check the DOJ website and maybe calguns.

Technically, the law is that it's illegal to sell, give, trade, loan, import or manufacture but not to buy or find. Good luck using that as a defense though...

PCR? Does it work for golphers and moles? Dog safe? Is it a cube?

I have 4,708 moles and golphers, a horse may get hurt. just can never see the critters. We have two hawks but they're gorged all the time. Need a solution soon.

Expect the future proposed fed legislation to look like Cali's penal code, but without the loopholes

Maybe I am overly optimistic.............but I doubt we will be getting major new legislation......at least until the Heller case is finished before the SCOTUS.

You have got to be kidding!

So when I drive to UT this summer I would be committing a felony by taking my varmint gun? So who has the facts on this? If I understand you correctly, even if I bring my AR15 with 5 round clips I am still breaking the law. I thought the old ban on replaceable magazines was expired.

This kinda thing makes me want to fly over CA if I ever have to travel SE again.
