I need help valuing an m1 carbine

A friend asked me to sell his m1 carbine. I know nothing about them but here is what I have. Inland carbine, barrell marked 11-45 General Motors, no import markings. Condition is good with some light markings/almost rust as seen in the pictures. The action is very smooth. The magazine has some light rust specks. For as old as this gun is I think it is pretty nice.

Gunbroker has probably 40-50 Inland m1's listed. The price range seems to be $450 $1,000. How in the heck do I price this one?

With the rust it's going to be on the low end unless it is a "special" serial number or year build. There are a lot of really clean ones out there. go to this site for examples with photos :
Cabela's -- Search Simple Product

There are other sites that will give you a guess on it's worth. Google M1 Carbine and you will find History links as to what and when and worth..

If the stock has been re-finished it loses a lot of value. Huge amounts. And in the pix it looks re-finished.

$500-$600.
it has all the updated parts on it...including an m2 bolt. so i would be willing to bet that it mixed parts in it as well.
what does the bore look like?
muzzle wear? give it the bullet test.
still looks like a fine sample.

if i was'nt on the other side of the country i migth be interested.

The NRA was selling them for $15 in the 60's.

Call Kerley's Sporting Goods in Cupertino, CA and ask for Craig... no one else. Craig is arguably the best living source of information on M1Garand's alive and can help you figure out the right value. the cartouche on the wood and the stamp on the bbl indicating '44 suggets this piece could be worth higher end of the stated range and maybe more. Inet resesrch on the serial # could also yield more info on provenance. If your friend has pictures showing the gun "in Theater" or with its original military owner, papers or any other provenance, value will increase. Hpe this helps.

90% of the 2.6 million carbines(43% of the total production, by all contractors) made by inland, had dated barrels.
so the dated barrel brings nothing to the table.

go to the Civilian Marksmanship Program web site and see what they are currently selling M-1 Garand and Carbines for on there....

They have different levels of quality and original or mixed parts depending on repairs and stuff....but I am thinking less than $400 for sure in that condition...and not being anything special looking or from description.

The CMP has a couple advantages over your buddies...they have experienced gunsmiths test and check every part...headspace, barrel wear, etc...and repair or replace bad parts to insure a safe weapon. If it was cleaned up significantly maybe $400 but not Sure. Best thing is to visit gun show with paper sign saying FOR SALE BEST OFFER and put $450 on it and walk around.

There is no history other than my friends wife's deceased drug dealer husband owned it.

I saw a post on another forum by someone looking for an M1 Carbine. I sent him the photos and told him my friend wanted $500. He bought it right then and is very happy with it. I think everyone is happy.

Thanks for the input.
