Back on topic, A LE buddy has a Kimber 1911, and it is the sweetest shooting .45 that I have ever played with. Granted it is an 800 dollar pistol with about 1k in upgrades and custom work, but still....

If the Para likes you, go for it, I haven't heard anything bad about them, but I would go down to ironsights and shoot the para and the kimber back to back.

I am also in the market for a 1911 style gun and had almost decided on the Sig. I have been looking at basically the same brands as you, but I own a Sig 229 and like it pretty well. However, I talked to a local gunsmith and he wasn't very high on the Sig 1911. Mainly because they haven't been making that style gun for very long and there are other brands that are more reliable out of the box. He sells many different and more expensive brands, but highly suggested the Smith & Wesson for having the best overall quality 1911. It's also in the $ 850.00 range. Don't know if that will help or hurt, but that's the adivce I got last week.

Your gunsmith is asking/stating exactly what I was thinking. So many American manufacturers have been doing this for a long time, why would I consider a German "new guy" on the block?

That is exactly the reason I asked. Sig has a great name in pistols, yet they are stepping into something new for them.

You can not forget the "new guy on the block" and you can not forget the "Sig reputation for quality".

I think you hit the nail on the head with my same question in a different form!

IMHO a less expensive 1911 with some modifications by a competant gunsmith will beat the pants off a good number of the more expensive "out of the box" pistols..

I know what you are trying to convey and that is my same opinion /question here.

Is the Sig a worthy pistol for purchase compared to the known bad asses in the 1911 family? Will I have reliability issues and such?

I'm going down tomorrow to purchase the pistol with the info alone that has been provided via this thread. I like it!

I own a Sig, Tarus, Para and a Colt 1911. I prefer the Sig P220. I like the decocking lever on the P220 versus the hammer up in battery of the Colt 1911. It just seems the Colt hammer is one more thing to get in the way when carrying concealed.

Yeah, not only do we have to go through the state crap, someone thinks its a great idea to take a further step and require a bit more. Par for the course though!

Another 1911 clone

I love Sig, but I can't justify the extra $$$ just cuz it's a Sig. The older Kimbers were good, the newer ones don't impress me quality wise. I got a MK4 Series 80 that I've had for about 15 years, other than a small slide crack (happens after 25,000+ rds) that I had stop drilled, no issues. But I already have a brand spanking new National Match slide and Bar-Sto barrel that I have to get fitted and I'm good.

I compared the Sig 1911 to various Kimbers and Springfield Armory's and it seemed to be very good. It was priced at about $900 and I think it would be my choice of the 1911's I saw. I have not shot it.

Okay, so...

A Taurus revolver comes apart for undetermined reasons and they make a crappy product?

I have read countless good reviews on Taurus guns.

I guess Colt makes a crappy revolver as well.

Who is to say that a factory could not double load a round?

Are there more incidents like this?

PacToy if you haven't bought one yet, be aware of the fact that the Sig GSR which is their 1911 line has been known to have some issues.

Now for those that will say this and that. I bought one and still have it. Got it for a damn steal (under half suggested retail). The GSR line has had issues mostly dealing with feeding problems but others also exist. The one I got would not feed more than half of the FMJ ammo I tried in it. 8 different magazines, three kinds of factory ammo (Remington, Winchester, & Federal) Sent it back to Sig and they fitted a new extractor. Have not gotten to shoot it since, so no tellin. But so you know I personally know four guys that had them and all of them had issues relating to not feeding/jaming/etc.

Just so you know, Sig will stand behind it. If you get one and it acts up, contact their customer service, have them send you a UPS pickup ticket, send it back, have them fix it, (no matter how many times it may take). (Not that it will take more than once) Some of the folks I have spoken to about theirs have said after one return trip to the factory they work flawlessly and others have made a few return trips. Its a coin flip as to if you get a good one.
