Kahr MK40

Just picked up my latest... Kahr's MK40 with factory night sights. I did lots of reading on this forum and some others. The recent post about "concealed carry" was a good read and I thank each of you that offered your experience.

I really wanted a .45ACP, and I am going to reserve that choice for a nice 1911 piece. You just can't believe how small this gun is! I will shoot it this weekend and if anyone cares, I will post up my initial thoughts. Also, if anyone has a holster recommendation based on experience, I would appreciate any personal experience.

My primary criteria for this purchase was concealed carry, then reliability. I also looked at the Colt New Agent and also the Kimber Ultra Carry II, but I kept reading reviews and comments that put questions in my mind about reliability. I ended up back to the Kahr and it was a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the above mentioned.

I will be waiting for the range report. It looks like a nice slim pkg.

I like the original Kahrs. Heavy compared to the polymer ones, though.
Nice also to have the choice between flush mags and extended ones.

Range Report

I spent this past weekend "breaking in" my new Kahr MK40. All I can say is WOW! As I mentioned above, this gun is small, but feels natural. It's accuracy is also stunning. Kahr recommends a break in of 200 rounds. I shot 4 boxes of Remington's UMC 180 gr. I also put through several rounds of "Pow'R Ball" in a 135 grain, as that will be what will normally be in both of my clips (this Kahr came with a small carry clip that holds 5 rounds and also the full size that makes shooting easier that holds 6 rounds). The Pow'R Ball rounds were absolutely devastating! I shot a piece of aluminum downspouting and the bullet left a 2" gaping hole!

As mentioned in my first post, reliability was crucial in my decision to purchase this gun. In shooting this gun pretty much continuously all afternoon, I did not experience a single failure, malfunction or jam, etc. I was shooting with a friend and he could not believe the accuracy of this little gun! My best grouping was 5 shots within 1" at about 10 yds. We were both shooting consistent 4 and 5 inch groups at 20 yds. The sights are factory night sights and work well.

Lastly, this gun definitely barks. The gun was still comfortable to shoot after 200 rounds, but it snaps. My wife put a couple of clips through it and really did not enjoy shooting this gun. She much prefers my full size 9mm. She did however manage to keep her 6 rounds within about a 9 inch group at 8 yds.

I am thrilled with this gun as it has met my expectations of purchase.

If anyone has a nice holster recommendation, I would greatly appreciate it. I have learned lots for this forum, so "THANKS"

Thanks for the write up. Sounds good! I shot a friends new 380 Kahr today. It is very accurate and very easy to shoot.

You made an excellent choice in the Kahr!

Some folks find the slide release a bit sharp and will round off the upper edge to remedy that , otherwise...everyone seems pleased with them.

the KelTecs are great too. Bit of a cult item.
Very light, though, you can feel hot 40s in those...

that would be a Kel Tech 3AT(380) almost for sure, I got one, and was/am shockingly suprised at what a good little gun it is.

I have been looking at Kahr and the SIG 250 in either 40 or 45. Good info...now I just need to make a decision and get one coming...Thanks for your input.

I have carried my Kahr MK40 just about every second of every day since I posted, back in March. I carry IWB at about the "four O'clock" position. I have several holsters from High Noon Holsters (my custom isn't ready yet).
As I mentioned, I looked at many choices, including the Glock and Sig. I ultimately made my decision because of the size of the Kahr being so small and concealable. Just make sure you handle one and get a pretty good feel for the weight, as my gun is all metal and has some weight to it. Any of the choices you list are good and you will be happy with any of them... have fun choosin'!
