Having actually read this entire thread, I'm aware of the light hearted nature of it. Unfortunately, someone needs to post up another "fail" picture to exemplify my latest attempt at humor...

...don't worry, I'll take her sleazy, and if I can't come home with a turkey, I'll be sure to at least pick off an eagle.

We can take hens in the fall, but not in the spring.

Same here. They're done raising the chicks by then.

Some counties have a fall season in which you can take hens. I have never been on a fall hunt.

No good yesterday.

We went after one at first light, but he shut up as soon as he hit the ground. We found him in a field with two hens. We stalked up ahead of the direction that they were heading, and set the decoys up in the open woods at the field edge. When they came into view, they were pretty far out. He barely responded to our calls. No gobble. He would just fan his tail out for a second, and maybe look over our way, then just kept moving along.

We got ahead of them one more time. Nothing. His gobbling from the roost, was the only thing we heard all morning.

The dogwoods aren't blooming yet . The old-timers around here say the turkeys don't really get "hot" until the dogwoods bloom. The picture of the opening day bird that I killed last year, has a blooming dogwood in the background. Maybe there's something to it.

I made it out this morning, no luck either. There was a boat load of snow, and the 80 allowed us to drive beyond where the Murican truck driving yocals went. Cut a bunch of tracks from yesterday afternoon, which was really exciting, but not so much as a cluck! Incredibly gorgeous blue bird morning though in the Rockies.

I thought I would share a picture of a recent hunt. We were fortunate enough to have two nice birds come in together ready to put a beating on our strutter decoy. The fight did not go as they had planned. The Kentucky hills are pretty right now and filled with the sound of gobbling.

This past Sunday was yet another beautiful morning to take my shotgun on a romantic walk to watch the sun rise. Unfortunately, there were no turkeys to enjoy the moment with us...

I went about three weeks ago, and had no luck. I'm going to try and go tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll be able to. This year's hunting seasons have been in the shitter.

That's what happens when you have a kid, I guess.

I went last friday. Abig tom had a bunch of hens but would not come to me. Then I lost him in the trees. Saturday I was set up perfect, they were coming to me, gobble on both sides of me, and in the distance I hear atv's coming. Two lazy ****s drive past my parked cruiser that was 300 yards away and drive right up to my decoys. They proceed to ask me if I have seen any turkeys. I was pissed!

Three different birds gobbling. I called up some hens and some jakes, but the big boys weren't going to close the gap.

Season's over.

Bummer!

I took this past weekend off getting ready for CM08, and this upcoming weekend I'll be at CM08. A buddy of mine got a nice tom two weekends ago, and was hoping to get his son one this past weekend. He said that once they both tag, he'll bring me out to where he's been hunting and seeing birds...

Well, the snow is finally melting and my buddy shot a turkey today. He was big, but skinny* (nothing to eat and lots of fighting to do). 8.5 inch beard and 18 lbs.

That's the view from our blind with two dec's in the onion grass. 6 hour hunt. The tom came in across the snow you see behind the decoys.

*not my buddy, the turkey. My buddy is big but not skinny.
